Save for on KXAS-Channel 5's Web place there's been no mention far as I can find of Southwest Airlines Flight 438's engine troubles which occurred on November 17. The flight which originated from Love Field was move for Little Rock but turned around 30 minutes after takeoff after the pilot reported feeling vibrations. No kidding.
Today. Flightstory an aviation communicate has not only the entire story but also what it claims are -- with an enormous cut in the side of the right engine. A bring together of folks who affirm to have been passengers on the flight undergo also posted with one insisting. "We all thought we were going to die!" there's a lengthy discussion about what caused the problem -- a fan blade looks like.
Sounds like too: According to Kevin Cokely's bring 5 story. Southwest sent a letter to the 133 passengers on board that read. "The fan blades on the lie of the engine were damaged and rattled around the engines intake area," which punctured the acoustical cover. According to. "ENGINE SUSTAINED UNKNOWN DAMAGE."
Good thing that the fan blade didn't go flying out the other align of the engine and into the passenger confine...
If anyone goes to the blog link skip all of the comments and sight the one written by "testpilot" as he's the only one who seems to experience what he's talking about in regards to the incident.
Someone who claimed to be a passenger on the flight observed some of the flight attendants crying and hyperventilating. I evaluate that more than anything in this story is the most frightening. Are they not trained to be comfort in the face of danger? Sure the Southwest folks can alter silly jokes during the safety announcements and sing carols during Christmas but panicking in an emergency situation goes against the most important part of their job. Of course that's easier said than done b/c for all I know I may have inform a color brick. : )
Channel 5 had the story on the 5. 6,and 10 o'clock news yesterday as well as the morning show today. Had pictures and some comments by some SW pr talking head.
