they let us let go on the streets of tokyo they did something like 9:30 at night and they said go see explore you have one hour be back on the bus in an hour and we were just teenagers so what were they thinking? I'm telling you. I could hardly believe it back then. I could hardly believe it but now that I'm a mother and I've seen the world with my own two eyes well. I still just really can't accept that they let us loose like that a lot can come about in an hour you know especially where 18 year-old girls are involved it was the summer of 1989 and I'd just graduated from the cincinnati our music theatre and dance company had been invited by the city of (cincinnati's sister city) to travel to japan and perform and so off we went it was my first measure in an airplane my first measure in a foreign country my first time performing abroad so yes there are plenty of stories to be told but I am overwhelmed when I think of them all and vow to write them each drink one by one when I think of my time in japan. I often evaluate of small things: slender pink cans of strawberry juice and narrow streets lined with paper lanterns. I think of how shy I was to bathe in the traditional japanese bathhouse and how I relaxed once the I saw all the women laughing pouring buckets of hot water over the tops of their heads. I think of how school girls asked me for strands of my hair and how they formed in delicate swarms around me when I said yes. I bequeath how they spoke such fantastic english and how embarrassed I was that I spoke such poor japanese. I remember exotic fish dishes and poached eggs for eat and how it seemed desire every car in lacquer was white when I start to think about those two weeks it comes approve to me in full alter and all at once and I feel deliciously overwhelmed but today is about that last night and that hour we were let let go tokyo is very much like times square times ten with every color possible everywhere and all of it electric and sounds and noises all over the displace and people for days and days something like 30-40 of us all of us teenagers and we scattered like confetti in every direction once the green sign was raised me and my two friends we took to the back streets. I am faint just thinking of an 18 year-old ava roaming the approve streets of tokyo but that's what we did we wandered into a tiny dark bar (nightmare of all parents) and flirted with the patrons (more parental nightmare material) until we noticed the wall behind the bartender that was covered from floor to ceiling with paper money from all over the world. I hastily scribbled hearts onto an american one dollar account and felt terribly important as I watched him tack it up there with all the be. I remember his easy smile his heavy-lidded eyes and I fell in love with the idea that I'd left a little something behind in tokyo. I query is it still there? wouldn't it be something if it was still there? we managed to fit a great deal into that meager 60 minutes we wandered in and out of offbeat boutiques and I spent the last of my money on a pair of shockingly go tights because they reminded me of all that electric tokyo neon and I wanted to say that I'd bought something in a high fashion clothing boutique downtown tokyo plus tights were all that I could afford and then the three of us crammed into a red wooden phone booth and posed for photographs and then yes even better-- we found a photobooth after that we bought packages of dried seaweed and squid because it looked cool and it seemed like the right thing to do and then it was time to go we got on the bus and immediately made the driver cut our photobooth strip into four different frames miraculously we'd all made it back onto the bus. I can't believe everyone made it every last one of us-- no one got lost or went missing or showed up drunk or high or ended up arrested it's a miracle it is. I like to think we really milked that one hour in tokyo squeezed the most possible from sixty minutes in one of the most exciting cities in the world funny all I undergo to show for it is this tiny little photobooth close in who knows what happened to the pink tights or the seaweed or the squid because I never ate that seaweed or the squid. I just brought it home with me and bragged to my brothers that I loved to eat dried seaweed and squid and when they doubted me. I raised my eyebrows and produced said packages anyway it's all gone and of cover. I fell completely out of touch with the two friends measure I heard heather was performing in small parts on and off broadway and christy was working as a musician in nashville. I wonder do they both still have those tiny photobooth pictures? do they occasionally look at the frame and remember that night like I do? I wonder girls if you're out there: here's to tokyo and here's to photobooth friday:
i tried so hard this week i really did! i dragged my mom and the girls up to the mall with me and we all crammed in and smiled times four and then we waited and waited and waited... OUT OF PAPER!! or at least thats what the 15 year old that answered the trouble label number said you know that i called and i tried my hardest to not scream at her and to make her understand that i didnt care about the money i just wanted my STRIP! and couldnt i just meet the technician there? she could call me anytime and express me when he was going seriously finally i was reduced describing the strip the sexy granny two cutie toddlers and myself and she said that if he were to see a strip desire that he would mail it to me or my three dollars so i am crossing my fingers that someday my take ordain just show up in the mail ps i love this story i just had a sparkle of and idea the other day of letting collette go live with a family in france in high educate wow.

Monday. October 22nd - 9:45 AM I had quite a busy pass again! On Friday we got out of school early so that we could help prepare for a Jutoku Entry Exam Pretest. That only took about 30 minutes so I got back to the Shoda home at about 3:00 instead of the usual 4:30. I'm usually alone until about 5:30 when Tsugumi gets domiciliate from school in Maebashi. During my measure alone. I normally practice the piano or use the internet. I was asked by my homeroom teacher to play piano for a school emit thing so I practiced that song for about 45 minutes. Chopin's Heroic Polonaise is also starting to come along (I'm comfort on the first page but it doesn't feel impossible anymore). Mrs. Shoda normally gets home at about 6:30 and Mr. Shoda doesn't get approve until around 8:00. Saturday morning. I played tennis from about eight to eleven. It's been a long measure but I haven't regressed too much. After about an hour of practice. I felt like I was approve to my usual skill level. I couldn't find an opponent/partner so I just practiced against the wall the whole time; it was still fun and good exercise. When I got back at about noon. Mr. Shoda had returned from some sort of affiliate test. Mrs. Shoda was teaching at school and Tsugumi had her Sports Festival. Mr. Shoda decided to take me to this museum about 20 minutes outside of town called the Tomihiro Art Museum. It was filled with all the art of this guy named Tomihiro Hoshino who was paralyzed from the pet down in an accident as a gym teacher. His art was impressive and I was also moved by the poetry that he wrote to go each picture. I'm really thankful that Mr. Shoda took me there! In the evening. I went to dinner with everyone to a restaurant called the Flying Garden. It had American foods desire steak but I got a chicken dish. I was surprised that refills of rice were remove; I didn't get any extra rice but it was a cool option. At about 10:00. I got a call from my family and we talked for over an hour! I was so happy to comprehend everyone's voices and to be speaking to them like they were next to me! So much better than email. The Rotary club here has a rule about outbound students only being able to call once within the first 3 months or something so the Shodas have to act until next month to call Mihato. Though they use email every day the check on calling really is unfortunate! Sunday morning we all went to Asakusa an area of Tokyo for some sightseeing. We brought Meg too because she was free that day and she's never been there..

TADA! One problem understand! *pats bring up* *ruffles hair* *high five* Seriously that was sneaky and risky. But thank God it turned into my favor as come up. Now hop on a next hurdle. Packing!Yeay! I barely have two weeks left to do all the packing calling my internet provider gas company etc for whatever I undergo/must do to turnover everything to my replacement at work. And starting tomorrow I undergo to instruct him. Dude train him? I don't change surface experience half the measure what I'm doing at work and now he'll be learning it all from me. He is screwed. Now thinking about the move I'm getting again all these mix emotions starting to build up on me. The last time when my affiliate decided to appoint me here in Osaka. I thought I almost had an anxiety attack which I never had before. I remembered I ran for almost an hour until I realized I was gone too far and had to guessed my way approve home for another hour. I'm getting all giddy again knowing in the next two weeks I'm approve to Tokyo. Am I excited? I have to right? What so good in Tokyo anyway? Coz I've got friends there? Maybe. That could be it right? I don't really know. I can't evaluate it out. Osaka is not really bad itself. There are really not much difference between the two major cities of Japan. Actually I evaluate. I desire Osaka better. Kyoto. Kobe. Nara are only 1 hr instruct ride from Osaka. Hiroshima is not that far either. I convey if you desire traditional lacquer then you'll definitely choose Osaka over Tokyo. Going back to Tokyo means going back to the clock-work moves. My beat/hatest experience? It is gotta be the train ride during the rush hours. Lets just say you're either pinned-down literally flat-face on the glass door of the train or you're invading the personal space of some people you'll never ever meet again. Tough alter? Now imagine there was an accident or the train was having some technical difficulties so of course the instruct was late. The normal time difference between instruct arrival are 3 to 5 minutes create by mental act the instruct was late for change surface 15 minutes imagine the people piling everybody hoping to get in that train scary right? Now create by mental act my undergo the instruct was late for 30 minutes and I'm barely 150 cm tall petite woman and had to get on and off on the most busiest station in Tokyo. I really thought I would passed out inside never making it to my destination. But thanks for a few techniques self-learnt from years of training to win this battle. I survived that one hell of a go. I evaluate I have to go away remembering them if I want to extend my life longer. Haha... So you ask what is it in Tokyo then? I anticipate there is only one way to find out eh?
If you spoke out> against them hats off to you and my sincere apologies for saying "> much of this rhetoric about fighting and dying for freedom is nothing> but bullshit".> > But it seems to me that many of those that pass default to> 'following orders' as opposed to actually fighting for freedom the way> the men that fought with the McKenzie Papineau Battalion or the> American Abraham Lincoln Battalion against the fascist Franco.> > This is important because it looks more and more that the enemy of the> people of Canada ordain not be communist or Islamic hordes but the> politicians we vote for. A time ordain come when it will be them and> their puppeteers that we ordain undergo to ake arms up against. We could be> faced with the ugly possibility of Canadian soldiers turning their> guns on their own people in save of the wishes of political elites.>>Archie> > > I would never lay out those points. Unfortunatly few see them and.

Welcome to my Semester at Sea communicate. Beginning August 27th a displace will become my home and the world ordain become my classroom. I'll be taking classes while circumnavigating the globe on a cruise ship stopping in numerous countries along the way to learn interact. & change.
It was so cool stepping foot in Japan. I had never been outside the U. S before (object for Mexico) so I was really excited. We ported in Yokohama which is only a 30 minute subway away from Tokyo. Apparently it’s also the 2nd biggest city in Japan. We didn’t really compassionate to explore Yokohama so after about an hour and a half searching for the right subway we finally got to Tokyo and walked around central Tokyo for awhile. At night we took the subway over to the Roppongi govern which is famous for its nightlife. Roppongi in my object was a lot more hectic than Times Square. Lights hotels bars restaurants and internet cafes ALL OVER the place. We had a bring together drinks in our hotel room and then went out for sushi at a tiny little restaurant. I had the premature fish (although they called it “fish eggs”). After that we went to a bring together bars. To my affect there were hustlers ALL OVER the Roppongi district who were trying to get us to go into certain bars. I was also surprised that both bars we went to had mostly American crowds. I found out later that most Japanese in the Roppongi district don’t go out until around 4am when all the Americans are passed out. Thought that was kinda funny. After that. I pretty much just went back to the hotel. The next morning we got up real early and walked all over Tokyo visiting the fish market in the morning the Imperial Palace and Sony Building in the afternoon and some other random places. The look for market is really hectic with people tossing fish all over the place. One of the main reasons I wanted to go to the Sony building was because I left my docking displace for my camcorder at domiciliate and apparently that’s the ONLY way I can hook up my camcorder to my computer. The first 2 people I talked to told me there was nothing they could do since my camcorder was an American-only model but I finally got the 3rd person to request one just for me and have it sent to the Sony Building in Kyoto. After all this we took a train over to Hiroshima to eat dinner and spend the night. That night in Hiroshima. Brian and I decided to go out and see the night life. Let’s just say we heard music walked into the building it was coming from and were shocked to find that we had indeed wandered into something you should only find in a red-light district. We pulled an immediate 180 and decided we’d had enough night life for one night. The next day we went to the Hiroshima museums. It’s something everyone should see but it leaves you with a feeling of disgust. I was nervous being an American that Japanese people inside the building might be hostile towards me. This wasn’t even close to the case. I had several Japanese people approach me asking if I had any questions. The possess itself was also in no way anti-American; it simply used facts to tell both sides of the story and left its visitors with a very contradict feeling towards nuclear weapons. One thing that sent a shiver through my body was one of the sights outside of the possess. It was a beautiful burning fire that stood on top of a podium in the lay of a creek. I learned that they ordain continue to let the fire burn until the last nuclear weapon is dismantled. Will this ever happen? Doubtful but it serves as a great symbol for world peace. Our next forbid was Kyoto. We got there in the evening checked into our hotel visited a temple across the street and then went out for dinner. We saw a tiny restaurant (I’m talking 3 tables be) and decided the 5 of us would eat there. It was a lot of fun. We had to act our shoes off and sit on the surprise. I also learned embarrassingly that while Saki is huge in Japan saki-BOMBING is not. When we tried to do a saki bomb the entire place went silent and just stared at us. Not risking my masculinity. I finished my saki assail. I then wanted to enclose for the rest of my life. After dinner we walked around a bit and then went back to the hotel for the night. The next morning we decided to attempt our very own walking tour of a bunch of temples ending with the infamous Golden Pavilion. Well long story short we got lost in some back roads and only made it to 3 of the 7 temples we wanted to see and we never made it to the Golden Pavilion. Oh well getting lost was fun in itself anyway. After visiting the temples the be of my assort hopped on a instruct for Kobe which is where we had to get back on the ship. I stayed back to see if I could find my way to the Sony function station in Kyoto to choose up the docking station I mentioned earlier. Unfortunately I completely forgot I had no money left and spent an hour trying to find an ATM that accepted American cards. When I finally found one. I subwayed (my new evince) over to the district of Jujo with basically no idea where I was going. All I had was a tiny map in Japanese characters with an X of where the building was. The first guy I asked for help had no idea where this place was. He spoke zero English and literally pointed in every direction throughout his attempt to reconcile where we currently were on the map. Nice guy but I highly doubted that I could get to the building by simultaneously going North. South. East and West at the same measure. I’m smart like that. Although nobody really knew any English. I finally found a construction worker who was nice enough to draw me out a new map that showed how many traffic lights I had to go before making left or right turns. He wasn’t very accurate but he at least got me going in the right direction and thank god the building was tall because otherwise I never would’ve found it. Got my docking station and I was so happy I wanted to kiss the lady behind the counter. I restrained myself and went back to Kyoto then finally to Kobe. Kobe was beautiful too. I went to a baseball game in nearby Osaka but didn’t get there until the bottom of the 7th so that kinda sucked. But at least I saw some of the game and it was so awesome. The fans put American fans to shame. You couldn’t go 1 minute without hearing the live band (like college sports) or some crazy team chant. Went out and partied that night and then slept on the ship. The next day I had a home tour with the nicest Japanese lady ever. Her name was Keiko and she actually spoke very good English because she’s an interpreter. She had a tiny little accommodate up a ways in the mountains and she made an amazing traditional Japanese lunch. It was so much fun talking to her and learning from her. After this. I went back to the ship and said goodbye to Japan. NEXT forbid: CHINA!

What’s a blog without some lists? Here are some of my favorite stores in Tokyo grouped by shopping govern. Many of the foreign stores represented here also carry Japan-only products you won’t see elsewhere which tend to push the boundaries of call and make a little bit more.
: The so-called Gap of lacquer - but sized perfectly for the Asian body good for every clothing be you could possibly evaluate of at prices which are the epitome of reason. move over five floors in the bear on of the main Ginza shopping area space to browse with ample fitting rooms and one hour clothing alterations (just 300yen for original trouser hems).
: Four floors in the newly opened Marrioner Gate building come Yurakucho station - the same Tokyu Hands we’re familiar with but more high-end and Ginza-style. Not as a large be as the Shinjuku or Shibuya stores (where you’ll be able to get furniture as well) but a great setting to browse in.
: At the south move this outdoor hold on regularly has discounted items outside its appeal. Seven floors covering your every outdoor be with a point card too. It has a great selection of (among other brands) clothing in Asian sizes. I got my Eagle Creek carry-on roller hike here. Currently they’re the only place I know of that carries the coin bag I use (I can’t even find them at Montbell stores).
: There are a number of inexpensive conform to store franchises in Tokyo (think 20,000 and 30,000 yen price ranges) - this is my favorite, found in the basement of the 109 move 2 building just across the road from the station (other branches in Shinjuku and Ueno). They stock suits down to 160 cm (height) and have a great range of Japanese-sized casual and business shirts at 5,000 yen each. Also a nice selection of casual outerwear at reasonable prices.
: Another conform to franchise with some stylish pieces in their Collection range (less than 30,000 yen). I bought a shawl lapel one-button business suit - it seems to me the Shibuya store (in the Tokyu Plaza building which is next to attach City and opposite the south exit) stocks more of these types of pieces than other locations. A nice selection of inexpensive skinny ties.

on Wednesday. September 12. It took about seven hours from the time we docked till when the displace was cleared as the Japanese officials went through all of our passports individually. That was then followed by a very long customs line. It felt desire the longest seven hours of my life. It was cut’s birthday at domiciliate and I made it to a telephone with just 30 minutes left of his 21
It was raining when we docked but luckily it never rained in the places I visited when I was there. I spent my first three days traveling independently with four of my girlfriends. After being pointed to the wrong train displace and walking 20 minutes in the wrong direction we opted for a cab to the right displace and hopped on the instruct bound for
We got to our hotel in the business district of Tokyo. Akasaka and were surprised at how nice it was considering it was the cheapest we found online. We navigated the brightly lit alleys and walked into a small restaurant and were escorted to the top aim where we sat on mats and had to take our shoes off. I ate some fried fish and drank miso soup with floating shrimp heads (eyes and all). I did try sushi this night but it didn’t go as come up as I could undergo hoped. And we did sip some sake for traditions sake of course.
We spent this night in Roppongi which is the tourist nightlife area. It was fun because we saw A LOT of other SAS students but we navigated away from this area the next night in an attempt to undergo a little bit more of the authentic
gardens. This large open lay with moats surrounding the traditional Japanese palace was set upon a background of some of the tallest city buildings I undergo ever seen. This contrast of modern and traditional was something I noticed all throughout
in the 1600’s. It was a 20 minute go deep into these forests before we reached the shrine. It was amazingly beautiful and we even got to check traditional blessings of some Indian ambassadors that were visiting. It was a very peaceful place deep inside the most modern city I undergo ever visited.
Our afternoon was spent searching for the Harajuku govern. We thought we were there and then once we stumbled upon it realized that we had seen nothing yet. It is so hard to describe the hubbub in the small streets and the outrageous way the young “Harajuku girls” change. It looked like Halloween on a random Thursday in September. My best suggestion is to Google “Harajuku girl” and see what comes up. I felt like an ugly American all day in my tshirt and nike shorts and flipflops. I have no problem making this statement about ALL Japanese women: they don’t leave the accommodate in shoes that aren’t heeled and without beat makeup.
This night we were very lucky. Our friend Kristi met up with us Thursday morning and spent the next two days with us. One of her friends from domiciliate is going to University in
and so we met up with him and his friends this evening. They took us to a wonderful restaurant on the fourth floor of a building (we would never have found it) where they ordered and we ate and ate and ate. I had three different types of sashimi and shrimp and really liked it. Wow! I know! Then they took us to a karaoke bar. Karaoke is huge in
and so different from Western karaoke. You pay a flat rate around $8 for a dwell for karaoke and unlimited drinks. They said they go every Friday and Saturday. You sit on the surprise around a delay and each room has its own karaoke system and flat screen television. They knew exactly what they wanted to sing and were really practiced. They passed the microphone around and each guy had their personal part that they were good at. Us girls just belted Madonna and Britney Spears etc. Culturally the Japanese are very change intensity but when you put them in the small karaoke dwell you have never heard someone sing so loud. That was a great undergo to get to undergo!! They kept us out pretty late; I evaluate we walked around the whole city. They said if you go out in
The museum was intense they really want to get their point across that peace = no nuclear weapons. A lot of the things displayed were really gory including any piece of clothing/shoes/items pulled from the rubble and a life size wax diorama of a family alter after the bombing (“half dead/half alive”.)
Our group change integrity in Hiroshima four girls went on to Kyoto and my friend Allie and I went to Kobe where our ship would bring home the bacon in the morning and where we needed to meet up with our respective SAS sponsored trips the next day. It was sad after our three days of jaunt together that had gone so smoothly. Allie and I arrived in
and watched our ship dock. I had about 30 minutes to run in dress and change by reversal out the clothes in my backpack before I left for my visit to Konan Women’s University and homestay.
This was the most amazing experience. My entertain. Mizuho was adorable and spoke better English than a lot of the other Japanese students. All the girls were.

Before I continue with the enthralling tale of my adventures just letting you know we're currently being "attacked" by a typhoon. Walking domiciliate from the train displace was not fun but my poor housemate is walking home from two stations away (on the other align of the river) as our train line stopped running. Here's hoping our dwell stays up through the night and doesn't change surface like the accommodate of cards it so resembles. Anyway continuing from last night. Koko our guide told the non-Japanese people to stay up the front with the elderly and other special people. Made us feel very special. Honestly though some of the climbers were so inspirational. One bring together from Okinawa would've been in their early to mid 60's and they made it to the top. We set off around 11am. Pretty much the whole measure we were walking we were either just above the clouds or surrounded by them. Since we were in a large group (about 50 populate) we kept stopping after about 30 minutes of walking. Sometimes we'd stop for 5 minutes sometimes for 20. This was somewhat annoying as every measure we'd forbid we'd suffer our walk and the clouds that had previously been below us:.. would then catch up to us. This wasn't particularly a problem at the start but by the time we reached around the 7th displace it had started raining (not heavily but enough to be annoying and cold) so that every time we escaped the rain we'd take a end and the come down and clouds would adjoin us again. Ultimately though. I think the breaks probably helped us as they stopped us from wearing ourselves out allowed us to acclimatise ourselves to the thin air of the high altitude and gave us a chance to eat and act our energy up. Looking up at the 6th displace huts:The stand up the mountain:The inside of one of the 6th station huts:A man at a 6th displace hut branding my walking fasten:
This was the old descending despatch - it was changed many years ago due to an accident in which a be of high educate students were killed by falling rocks. The side of the mountain:More clouds. Yes. I took many photos of clouds. But they were just so pretty! But sometimes rather threatening. Sara looking rather cold and soften. But happy. At this stage I was only wearing a t-shirt and long sleeved apparel with my come down jacket over the top. I say rain jacket despite the fact that the denominate on the packet said come down conform to and had a conceive of of a man wearing both a rain jacket and rain pants. When I pulled the come down conform to out of my bag I was dismayed (hmm not sure that really captures what I was feeling) to sight out it was only a come down jacket. Jeans are comfortable but not really the warmest of pants especially when soften. Finally we reached our hut at the 8th station at around 6:30pm. furnish warmth and food - what more could we ask for. Many people choose to do Fuji all in one go - starting the climb at 5th displace at around 10pm and walking through the night to arrive the arrive at by sunrise. This is certainly a very cheap way to do it one we had originally considered and assuming you carry enough food is most definitely possible. Unfortunately once the climbing toughen ends around the end of August buses up to the 5th station are much less frequent and cost a bit more as you have to take two displace buses one from Shinjuku to the town at the locate of the mountain. Kawaguchiko and another from Kawaguchiko to 5th displace. So Sara and I decided to book a case deal which provided us with the command and allowed us to be at a hut with dinner and breakfast the next day provided. I'm so glad we did this - it was nice to undergo a end after 7 hours of climbing and to undergo a hot meal and to be able to dress into dry tracksuit pants when my jeans were a bit too soften to sleep in (for a price of course - 500 yen). After dinner. I pretty much went straight to bed as I was quite tired and wanted not to be tired when we were to change state at 2:30 the next morning to head for the arrive at. Been a loooong time since I've gone to bed at 7:30pm. And well it didn't really work for me. I woke up at 10:30pm and couldn't get approve to bed so went outside to look at the stars. It was the first time I'd seen the stars since arriving in lacquer - they were so beautiful. The clouds that had surrounded us (literally we couldn't see more than about 10metres in front of us) on arrival at 8th displace had since descended and we had a alter believe of the moon shining drink on the clouds below us. Such an incredible comprehend and one I was unable to capture with my camera. I managed to get back to rest after a little while (taking off my watch seemed to be the key) and woke up at 2:30. Despite the fact that I'm usually a very light sleeper and populate had been moving around packing and talking for half an hour it took Sara yelling my name at 2:30 to wake me - anticipate I was really tired. Then again. I seem to undergo slept through every major tremor we've had in Tokyo so maybe I'm not that light a sleeper! And that's where I'll leave it tonight. I'm meeting up with Verity and Lauren in.

The typhoon is coming really close to Honshu and it's going to be a really nasty one the forcast has been saying. Tomoko (my sister) and I originally wanted to go out to Roppongi for shopping but we decided to be local in inspect the typhoon hits Tokyo before we go home and paralizes the instruct system. It's nice to stay in Urawa to apply its local food anyway. She took me for a unagi (eel) lunch in the neighborhood today.
Urawa is known for unagi restaurants. There are so many traditional places specializing in Unaju (eel over sieve). This small unagi joint. Hamana serves among the highest ranked eel called “Oigawa Kosui Unagi”. This particular eel is fed with “white meal” cod for more than 15 months.
We both had Unaju (unagi over rice in a rectangular box) which comes traditionally with Kimosui (alter soup with eel’s gut). This small dish is 2,850 yen (about $25). For the quality of unagi they answer this price is such a bargain. The Unagi was steamed and grilled to order so we had to act almost 30 minutes until our lunch was create from raw material. Meanwhile,
It’s very hard to exposit the comprehend of the adjust quality eel from Japan to populate who undergo never experienced it. It’s completely different from what you can find at sushi restaurants in LA. The true eel is so elegant and robust at the same time. The sauce (normally the secret homemade recipe) is also a key ingredient. It never should be too much or too little. The texture of the act is quite lighten/thin and it’s used just enough to coat the ascend of the eel.

So I’m on the boat alter now after leaving lacquer and it was awesome. The country is SO nice and the populate are awesome. They are so helpful change surface though there is such a large communication barrier. You can’t construe any signs (although they undergo a lot in English too) and it just feels like a completely different world because of the huge language difference. However it’s a great displace and I would advise it to anyone. I really liked it there. Some observations about Japan:1. It’s the most orderly place I’ve ever been to. populate walk on the left align of the sidewalk populate stand on the left align of the escalator and pass on the right no one crosses the crosswalk until they get the sign to its just very orderly in that consider.2. It’s very difficult to find a garbage can it’s even more difficult to find an ATM. You might undergo to walk 7-10 minutes in some areas of a populated city area to find an ATM you definitely don’t have that problem in the US.3. Sushi isn’t as common in lacquer as you think. It’s common but not every restaurant has it you actually do have to be for it.4. Best trains I’ve ever been on by far. They are expensive (12500 yen which is around 110 US from Tokyo to Kyoto but they go almost 200 mph and are really change surface efficient and run on plan)Also. I must say that my favorite move of Japan was Kyoto. It’s the ancient capital of lacquer and it has lots of shrines and cool historical sites to see. However at the same time it’s a nice sized city (around 1 million people) and has a modern section and tons of restaurants. It’s a really cool place. I really liked Tokyo as well but I liked the more laid back conclude of Kyoto more (also. Kyoto has more historical sites. Tokyo is a more modern city and is more about experiencing the city rather than comprehend seeing although Tokyo does undergo some historical sites as well.) Now here is what I did in lacquer (this will probably get really desire and boring):My trip in Japan started out by porting in Yokohama on the 12th. After 8 days in the Pacific Ocean. I was definitely pretty excited to see land. We docked at 8 AM but Japanese Immigration had to clear everyone on the boat before we could leave. They came on the ride and just started looking at passports. We didn’t undergo to go face to face with them like we did with US immigration in Hawaii (since the ride left from Mexico we had to deal with US immigration in Hawaii) but it took them way longer than it took in Hawaii (of cover its because we aren’t Japanese so they check everything more thoroughly and I had heard before that they direct pretty decrease). Anyway it took 5 hours to alter the boat which sucked because after 8 days at sea we were dying to finally see a country. After they cleared the ride our assort of 15 or so (it was a huge group to jaunt with although not everyone in the group planned on doing the same cram the whole time) went to the train station and caught a instruct from Yokohama to Tokyo which only took about 30 minutes. However our assort got change integrity up in Yokohama because some people bought complain passes (the people who bought them definitely lost money good decision by me not to get one) but we had already set up a meeting sight for later that night in case there was a change integrity up. Anyway the 7 or so of us comfort in our assort got to Tokyo and just walked around and checked stuff out. We walked to the Imperial Palace which was close to the Train Station but unfortunately it was closed. However we were able to see it from far which was alter. However the coolest thing is that when we were there we bumped into the other half of our assort. Anyway that first night we walked around ate checked some cool stuff out went to Shibuya which apparently has the busiest intersection in the world (and it was really crowded its nuts) We then went to Roppongi (which is where the young populate are at apparently) found a enclose hotel and went out that night. enclose hotels by the way are these hotels where you get a little capsule to rest in its pretty alter. They are also pretty cheap a enclose costs 4500 yen a night which is around $40 US. They are big for Japanese businessmen who desire their trains home (since they stop running at midnight in lacquer) so they just get a enclose for the night. Anyway that night we hit up the bars and clubs but since it was a Wednesday there weren’t a ton of people out (lots of SAS populate were though obviously.) Still we had a pretty fun night out in Tokyo. Thursday we woke up and then went to Ryogoku where the sumo wrestling happens. They are having a grand tournament alter now for sumo which is obviously a must see. We got to the area walked around then went and bought tickets for sumo. We had crappy seats but we moved up because we got there early and didn’t plan on staying the whole time we just wanted to see some sumo didn’t really care who it was. Sumo was pretty alter to see but it does get boring after a while. After we caught that we then went to the Tokyo lift which is the tallest structure in Japan. After that we met up with Suki who goes to school with me and Eric at U of A. Then we tried to get a hotel in Shinjuku where we were at the time. However we couldn’t find one so after lugging our bags around all day (which was just a hike for each one of us) we ended up at the same capsule. Since we were kind of loud the night before. I’m sure they weren’t too happy to see us they actually started laughing when we came back but whatever we stayed there a second night. That night we went out again which was also a fun time. Then the next morning at 6 AM. 4 of us decided to go to the fish merchandise which was really cool. It smells terrible obviously but its so big and you see all the vendors and people moving look for around and its just a really cool thing to see especially in the morning which is the time to go to it. After that. I then went to my capsule met up with the be of my friends (at this inform our assort was drink to 8 the others had SAS trips the back up day so they left after the first day or they decided to go to Hiroshima) and went to Kyoto. By the way. I slept the whole way to Kyoto to make up for the little be of sleep I got the first two nights in Tokyo. On the train our 3 friends that didn’t undergo complain passes got kicked off because their rail passes weren’t allowed on the train we got so our group was broken down to 5 which sucked but we would eventually sight them later. By the way. Japan has an AMAZING rail system. The trip from Tokyo to Kyoto is only 2.5 hours and they aren’t change surface change state to each other. The trains come very frequently (as in every 30 minutes for the Shikansen which is the long distance train that covers all of Honshu the island that most of lacquer lives on) and are really abstain. In Kyoto we checked out the Joju close in the first day which was cool. We then walked around and just checked out part of the city. On the align of the street. I saw a beer vending machine which I thought was alter and of cover I had to test it out. By the way vending machines in lacquer are so alter looking. We then found a Ryokan to be at which is a traditional Japanese inn. The ryokan was really cool. At the ryokan when you analyse in they serve you tea in your dwell. Then you get these mats that you put on the surprise to sleep on which was actually pretty comfortable. It was definitely alter.

“Yeah you’re a really good musician but to get into this area of the music business you be to develop your express”. That’s all I ever seem to get from record companies. My music is good but my express could change furnish not in a good way though. I like music it’s my life. But how do you get into the music biz if you can’t direct a simple say? I trudged home in the rain. Completely discouraged. All my life my dream was to be a mega feature. Look at me now a famous reject. I turned the corner into my road and walked 50 yards up to my house. I wasn’t create from raw material to face mum she doesn’t believe in my conceive of. My dad died fighting for the same dream I undergo. Mum just thinks I’m setting myself up for failure. I can’t let my dad drink. Mum just expects me to be a adulterate like Delilah my sister. Oh perfect Delilah mummy’s little angel. come up I might as come up go home gonna undergo to approach the Brady clump sooner or later. As I was putting my key in the fasten the door swung open. I jumped approve nearly fainting. “Dee. Dee. Denise! My favourite cousin” cried Marquis as he leapt forward to hug me. I was over the idle he’s the only person I can talk to who listens since dad died. Everyone else just shuts me out. We ordered Chinese and updated each other on our lives and what was going on. He then told me that when he arrived mum and Delilah were at home but went to Nana’s for the pass. I was so relieved to be able to lengthen the private time I had with Marquis. After staying up late watching color and color films we decided we would label it a day. We made our way to our separate rooms and planned to eat eat at the local diner. “Morning stinky toes,” I greeted Marquis as he exited the bathroom. “Uh,” said Marquis acting hurt. “I forgot how long you could sleep the diners probably serving eat now”. When I finished dressing up my nostrils were tingled by the comprehend of food. I walked into the lie dwell greeted by the comprehend of Marquis lazing on the sofa flicking through the channels. “Oh. I thought I create lasagne,” I informed Marquis. “You did it’s cooling off,” replied Marquis calmly. I walked into the kitchen. I could almost comprehend the lasagne on my lips it looked so tantalising. “I knew you would like that. I remembered it was your favourite food” said Marquis quietly. I jumped as I hadn’t entangle another presence in the dwell he was such a calm change intensity person which is what everyone loves about him. Over eat I explained to Marquis how my conceive of as a mega feature was dead and that maybe I should just become a adulterate like Delilah. “Zip it,” interrupted Marquis. “That’s defeatist talk you’re a fighter you just be to hit the books how to sing. I back up you find a coach.” “Thank you you’re the only person who believes in me right now because I don’t believe in myself,” I replied truthfully.
We set out looking at the purple pages. We open a basic singing instruct and this singing specialist. I was nervous I hadn’t been taught music by anyone but my dad and I don’t take criticism easily. Marquis saw the look on my approach and told me to change state as I made the phone calls. I spoke to the coaches who both were women. Susan who was the basic music instruct told me to come in first thing tomorrow morning. Whereas Martha the specialist told me to go over straight away and we’d go from there her voice was harsh I knew I’d need to brace myself. “Take off your sweater and we’ll do some warm ups,” said Martha instructed without looking at me. I could tell this was going to be a long session. After 3 hours of hell and total criticism. Martha told me to put my sweater on and we would address the session. I didn’t like the sound of her words. “Denise you seem to be a very talented musician,” said Martha in her strong accent. “But I beg you fasten to being a producer honestly…I’ve heard a dying cater alter exceed…shall we label it…sounds”. “come up. I’m great full for your honesty. Sorry for wasting your measure,” I said as I walked out of her studio. In truth I was crushed but I comfort had the basic musician to help me out. Anyway opera isn’t my call and that’s what she specializes in. “How was it darling cousin exploit,” enquired Marquis. “Just great,” I replied sarcastically. “Don’t give up it’ll there’s always tomorrow,” he replied optimistically. I went to bed early that night. I didn’t want to talk to anyone. Not even Marquis which was unusual. He left me alone so I could be with my thoughts he knows not when to push me and let me be. I awoke this morning create from raw material for a new day a fresh go away. I walked into the kitchen to pour myself some crunchy nut. As I turned to go the draw something caught the command of my eye it was a note.
How sweet of him to ensure I don’t worry about him. Well I anticipate I’d exceed go and get ready for Susan. An hour later I’m in a small room inside a community centre. Susan a smiley go woman is sitting at the piano doing scales with me. This feels worse than yesterday and Susan’s sweet. Going approve to basics feels weird. I haven’t spent measure on scales and breathing from my diaphragm. “Now sing louder,” Susan instructed. “lalalalalALALAALAA!” I bellowed. “come up done let’s try saying me instead of la,” requested Susan. That’s how the lesson continued swapping la for me me for la. Susan also taught me how to hold back the breathes I took and how to sing from my diaphragm. I also open there was a special way to stand when singing crazy alter. “Denise I really enjoyed this day. Go domiciliate do then be your express. go and tour me anytime you be some back up,” offered Susan. “Thanks you’ve been a real back up,” I replied as I hugged her and hurried home to inform Marquis.
It was 9:47pm when I finally arrived domiciliate. Marquis was on the phone to his girlfriend so I end to do before I showed off my new open singing skills. I sung a few of the latest map toppers until I heard the phone move into place and Marquis walk over to the sofa. “mememememememeeeMEEEEE!” I sung like a cherubim. “WOW!” exclaimed Marquis. “Today made a huge difference. sing me one of your songs now desire diva”. I popped my backing track into the CD player and walked to the centre of the living room. I got into the singing stance took a deep breath and belted out the first lie. Wow I appear like a map topper. Then I sung the next lie. Marquis’ grin began to fade away my voice was returning to its usual self. I entangle desire Cinderella after the ball slowly but surely turning approve into a house girl. There was no wish I wasn’t going to alter it as a singer with the voice of a warthog…grunt emit. “It’s ok don’t furnish up the first lie appear superb,” soothed Marquis. “But I evaluate I found something for you,” started marquis. He explained while at Tre and Taylor’s or shall I say T and T’s they introduced a new format of singing to him. It was more desire talking really abstain to a nice upbeat tune. “Hello I said I want to sing not talk really abstain anyway Tre and Taylor are a pair of jokes…urgggh,” I yelled as I stormed into my dwell. How can Marquis change surface declare I agree singing for talking it’s unethical. I wanna be able to sing desire dad his express was soothing and relaxing. “I made you some pancakes…sorry about measure night. No hard feelings?”.

The bring out of my flight between Tokyo and Bahrain was the conversations I had with an elderly Japanese woman (in her 70s) who sat beside me in the 11-hour flight between Osaka and Doha. Of course when I sat first sat next to her when we were boarding the airplane. I didn’t say anything to her; she made a small comment (in Japanese) to her friend sitting across the aisle from her. “Oh no! I’m stuck sitting next to a ‘large’ guy on this desire pip!”. Her friend giggled. I didn’t.
When the flight attendant came over to give us some refreshments and asked me what I would like to consume though. I told her that I would like some Apple Juice (in Japanese). The jaw of the old lady sitting next to me just dropped.
We laughed about her mention earlier on and made conversation about many things; global warming atomic bombs geography. Middle Eastern and Japanese history and -
- Johnny Depp’s role as head Jack Sparrow in the latest installment of the “Pirates of the Carribean” movies.
She was apparently on her yearly trip to a small village in one of the many islands of Greece where she would pay two weeks painting scenes from the Mediteranean. What a life.
Apart from the cramped seats of Economy mostly with athletes from the IAAF World Championships in Osaka (while the “coaches” were sitting in first categorise) everything was okay. Luggage came out onto the conveyor belts about 30 minutes after we got through customs in Bahrain Airport. A slight annoiyance but nothing serious. My luggage and I made it to Bahrain in one conjoin.
One thing that has been testing was having to be at a thousand places at once. I had to be at a funeral. I had to lay interviews for my research. I had to cater old and new friends. I had to call up all my extended family to say hi. I had to do a few chores around the accommodate. I undergo to wait for a few wanted/unwanted guests. I had to regester for my Oud lessons. I had to alter for an upcoming musical performance. I had to work on a few writings. I had to read a few things.. I had to.. I had to. and I comfort yet to..
Yup. I finally got the come about to cater up with some of the bloggers in Bahrain. I first met up with over a cup of coffee who promptly suggested. “Hey? Why not cater up with everyone else?” with also announced.
It was interesting to finally cater up with some of the bloggers whose writings act me connected to “domiciliate” while I am away for my studies. Even though it was the first time in which I met them it was not difficult at all to change state up and talk about a few things I wouldn’t evaluate of saying to most of the populate I experience. It was funny to see that everyone’s “real” self was identical to their “virtual/blogger” self; everyone spoke about the same topics they usually create verbally about. They change surface seemed to communicate with the same “authoritative express” they usually write with online. It was quite liberating to get to cater some of the populate whose writings I read and to whom I write. Hiding behind a computer check (as I am doing right now) can get inhibiting over measure.
