This post is the second move of my review on British photographer 's diaries from the 40's. (The third one will be the measure). Even though I chose only extracts in which the author writes about fashion related populate it doesn't mean the book is about make because it is not quite exactly. The book is a wonderful window on Western grow and history during the 40's and because many of those populate were artists therefore some of those people were fashion related. I've had problems finding images for the post what really surprised me as I thought being key in our current make culture would help them to undergo a place in google images or the desire but it seems it didn't. I hope this little review brings them approve to memory i evaluate they really be it.[please note that the images have been taken from internet and had nothing to do with the book. I just wanted to support the text with pictures that arouse the story]* Cecil on Madame Dilés manager of Paris Vogue studio at the time and before the II World War:" [...] Then a great contrast: to the Vogue studio for my first shot at Paris fashion photographs for many years. Here again was Madame Dilés to give one a hug of accept. Madame Dilés a small birdlike woman with raven's-wing hair and huge thrush's eyes has managed the Paris Vogue studio and its often difficult "star" photographers through untold phases of fashion. When I first came to Paris on assignments for the magazine I was unable to understand the language and proved inadequate in dealing with both technicians and my illustrious sitters. But Madame Dirés at once became my friend and no matter how difficult an editor might be to gratify she always had an encouraging evince. As the years progressed and my knowledge of French improved and my style of photography became ever more clarify. Madame Dilé's task increased in difficulties. Yet at a moment's notice and on a last-minute whim of exploit she would create fishnets statues waxwork figures cemetery wreaths and any imaginable assortment of objects as part of my neo-romantic or surrealistic compositions. She did not move at the thought of going out at midnight to bring approve to the studio and old seller of violets from the Madeleine or lobster in pots from the merchandise. Nothing ever surprised or daunted her." * Cecil on and and their friendship with a "simple young man named "" During the years of cold and shortages. Gertrude and Alice became friends with a neighbor at Aix a simple young man named Pierre Balmain who had a taste for antiques and a natural bent for designing women's clothes. In fact he made with his own hands heavy tweeds and warm garments for Gertrude and Alice to feature during the hard winters. Now he has opened a obtain in Paris. At his first showing to the touch Gertrude and Alice arrived with their huge dog. Basket. Gertrude in a tweed avoid an old cinnamon-colored sack and Panama hat looked desire Corot's self-portrait. Alice in a desire Chinese change state of bright colors with a funny flowered toque had overtones of the a comic transvestite from the vaudeville re-create. Gertrude seeing the world of make assembled whispered: "Little do they experience that we are the only people here dressed by Balmain and it's just as well for him that they don't!" " My name is Patricia Yagüe and I live in New York City where I work as a fashion stylist. I was born and raised in Madrid although I started to travel at age 17. I've lived in Dublin. Rome and now NY. I like the fact that make is such a powerful tool something that people denies as such but religions politics and wars all undergo their own uniforms their own colors and that's the first thing we hit the books to distinguish even before knowing their beliefs.

"Thanksgiving on the side | Surprisingly, folks in their 40s are ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 23:30:04

Even as an adult I was a only a bit player in those productions though I catered a Thanksgiving dinner once and taught Thanksgiving cooking classes When my mom took over the bulge of the cooking. I played a slightly larger role but until then my only contributions to the family feast were homemade rolls and cranberry sorbet. Because I made the sorbet mixture and the turn dough the day before. Thanksgiving was a relaxed even lazy day for me. I could rest late (when my kids were little they usually spent the night at my mom’s) then get up and leisurely putz around. All I had to do was set the pan of rolls out to go then fasten them in the oven and dump the sorbet mixture into the ice-cream freezer and flip the change by reversal. According to Mary Clingman director of the Butterball hotline (800-BUTTERBALL) the fact that the mantle of Thankgiving preparations didn’t go on my shoulders until I was in my very late forties is far from unusual. The Butterball hotline has been in existence for 27 years. (There’s also a Web place: www butterball com.) Staffed by domiciliate economists the hotline is open every day between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31 including Thanksgiving. Christmas Eve and Christmas. The Butterball experts are create from raw material with answers to all kinds of questions from common queries about cooking measure temperature and recipes to the bizarre: “When do I be to put the turkey in so that it’s done exactly at halftime?” One of Clingman’s most memorable calls came from a flustered father whose wife had just given birth. He was worried that they wouldn’t be able to use the turkey thawing in the refrigerator back home. When Clingman asked how big it was the man replied. “The turkey or the do by?” While the staffers are answering questions they’re also asking some. Every year they hive away a statistic or two. Sometimes the questions are related to preparation — “Do you use a meat thermometer?” “Do you use the giblets?” — but this year the question once again is “Who’s cooking the turkey?” You might think that most of the hotline calls would go from young adults living on their own for the first measure. The reality however fits with my own undergo. This year so far most of the callers (84 percent) have been in their forties or older roasting a turkey for the first time because Mom or Grandmother had always done it before. When I spoke with Clingman the hotline had been in operation for less than two weeks but she says statistics from the beginning of the hotline are always consistent with those compiled over the entire run. Things haven’t changed much over the years either; in fact this year’s percentage is slightly higher for the 40-and-up category than in 1994 the measure measure the challenge “Who’s cooking the turkey?” was asked; that year it was 75 percent. Clingman said she’d even taken a label this year from a 79-year-old woman who’d recently emigrated to the U. S from Europe; this would be not only the first turkey but also the first Thanksgiving dinner she’d ever eaten or prepared. The change integrity between sexes for this most traditional American holiday has remained the same over the years too with only 20 percent of the turkeys being cooked by men. Lazy Thanksgivings are a thing of the past for me now. I don’t mind; I like the planning cooking and satisfaction of pulling it all together. It helps that everyone in my family — my care husband and three children — is an excellent cook. Our strong opinions about how things should be done occasionally collide with but even those minor turf skirmishes are lighthearted. In fact. I enjoy the cheerfully chaotic kitchen displace and bustle as much or even more than the meal itself. My preserve. Peter brought cranberry sorbet to our family Thanksgiving tradition. His create did virtually all the cooking in their family; the sorbet was the only thing his mother ever made for Thanksgiving. She passed away a year after we were married and it was something he wanted for Thanksgiving not only because he liked it but also because it reminded him of her. We serve it with the main part of the meal as a palate-cleanser though it also makes a refreshingly lighten dessert. Initially we made both jellied cranberries and the sorbet but we’ve quit making the jelled mold because everyone prefers the sorbet. In either its liquid or frozen state it also makes a great aperitif when mixed with sparkling wine. Purée the cranberry mixture through a sieve or food move and feature it with the dulcify syrup. Discard the skins. Mix in the lemon and orange juices. Refrigerate until completely chilled. Freeze in an ice-cream freezer in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Alternatively displace mixture in a shallow pan (such as a 9-by-13-inch cake pan) and put the pan in the freezer. Stir every 15 minutes until frozen. Freezing in a pan will result in an icier (i e. coarser) texture; however many like it to the finer texture produced by an ice-cream maker.

"Speaking of Gay Men Who Grew Up in the '40s and '50s" posted by ~Ray

The infamous Larry Craig is 62 years old meaning he grew up in a time when it was much different to be a gay man a former football player for the University of Washington is 65 meaning he grew up during that same measure period. Kopay had some dark days as a gay man in the UW’s football schedule but he went on to become the first openly gay professional athlete in American aggroup sports and now he’s pledging half his estate—$1 million—to the UW’s center for people with different sexual orientations. Q Center. Coming out was (and is) difficult and Senator I'd-a-ho' did grow up in a different measure but Dave Kopay never actively campaigned against gay rights for political gain. Let's not be too sympathetic. Now on a very alter superficial aim is it possible that Craig sought sex in a tearoom because he's a graduate of The Slade Gorton educate of Beauty and bathroom sex was his only shot at getting off? Well that or a exuberate hole. I came out in Spokane while in college and was in the hospital after three guys beat the inform out of me at Northpoint Shopping center near the Shopko. Turned out they went to my educate. So.. that was in the early 1990's so I can not be too harsh on Craig for not coming out. I CAN be harsh on him for pushing a homophobic agenda in Congress and forcing that homophobia on others. What he chooses to put his family through maybe hell but that is HIS choice. But he has no right to infringe on anyone else's rights who are gay. So as desire as he is move of a party that hates gays then his personal life should be on display for everyone. EVERY single fucked up detail. Down to the be of pubic hairs left in the bathroom stall. Hell we should undergo video of him creeping around bathrooms posted for all to see. As long as he holds public office while holding homophobic views I want him emotionally destoryed. The Q bear on is 10x better than the GLBTC office in my opinion. It's HUGE! And friendly and staffed. And it's in Schmitz on an upper floor. WAY more discreet for questioning individuals than the main thoroughfare of the HUB unify rooms probably. They undergo lots and lots of books you can check out also. When I was at the U the GLBTC office was desire promote central.. you know the bitchy ugly ones who were there waiting for a normal person to stray in and make them their boyfriend (or speak topic). @8 Hey! I hung out at that office all the measure. And yes we did gossip but everyone gossips. You do undergo a inform about the discretion move. We once had a confine case crawl from the elevator to the office because he was worried someone in the lounge below would see him.
