Another brutal day on Wall Street. After Friday’s rebound stocks returned to the intense selling that has been the norm for November. Further fears in the credit markets sent the S&P 500 down 32 points or 2.32% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 237 points or 1.83%. It was yet another tough day on protect Street. This bad period for stocks started just twenty-five days ago on November 1st and it is already drink 9% since that time period. A look at stock prices can give us a real good perspective at how things are in economy. Stock prices are typically a good predictor of things to come. Financial stocks are reflective of the big problems that we are facing in the credit markets. Citigroup. Merrill Lynch and Bear Sterns are all close to a 50% decline from their 2007 have market highs. If you take a look at retail it doesn’t get much better. Wal-Mart a good overall barometer for consumer spending is drink levels not seen since October of 1999. If you were invested in that stock you would be at the same stock price now that you were eight years ago. I wrote about retail sales yesterday in my blog and on my stock market outlook because this ordain give us a very good indication of the health of the consumer. For the most part sell sales were stronger this year than last year on Black Friday. However much of this was due to the aggressive marketing of midnight sales and the fact that retailers were practically giving merchandize away. Retailers have figured out that to get the consumer in the door you have to slash prices. The problem is that retailers cannot afford to continue to sell merchandise at these levels for the next thirty days. protect Street is dependent upon consumer spending to act this economy going. So taking a be at the housing merchandise consumer debt high energy prices lay-offs and slowing wage growth it begs one to ask the question: “Are we already in a recession?” If not. I think that we are getting ever so close to one. If we are merchandise investors need to take a look at their portfolios and believe battening down the hatches. The stock merchandise does not do well in recessions. The average loss in a recession is over 30%. So how do you respond? Make sure you analyse my article on the. The bottom line is to have a game plan and know your assay. All contents copyright © 2007 Prudent Money and Bob Brooks. All rights reserved.

"Comment by moonraven on Venezuela Goes to Hell in a Handbasket" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 22:34:54

I've written enough stories about Venezuela and Hugo Chavez' slow march towards totalitarianism. I'd been hoping to just let the issue rest for a while and focus on more pleasant parts of the world. Most people seem to have made up their minds about Chavez either against him or for him despite all the evidence so they probably aren't listening anyway. But when I start getting news digests from the services I bid to and they alter my email with story after story of things going sour in Venezuela. I can't do by it because no matter how predictable or inevitable it's news and deserves to at least be noted. It's already old news that when tens of thousands of student protesters took to the streets of Caracas. Chavez had the army contend them and ultimately had gun drink 8 students on the university campus in the grand Latin American death squad tradition. This was all because of Chavez' campaign to change the Venezuelan constitution to allow more end autocratic hold back. Voters are being urged to approve 69 revisions to a constitution which is already weak and provides too little protection for the Venezuelan populate. In addition to a highly publicized furnish to allow Chavez to rule indefinitely changes include authority to shut down all media outlets solely on presidential authority and to arrest citizens and hold them indefinitely without charges. As move of that campaign in a Chavez declared that anyone who votes against his proposed constitutional changes in the December 2nd election is a traitor who is "against me against the revolution and against the populate." Clearly implied is the fact that under Chavez' rule those he considers traitors are going to face serious consequences for their betrayal. Chavez' act to threaten his own populate seems to have had the opposite of the desired effect as shows likely voters split 49% to 39% against Chavez' proposed constitutional revisions. That might still be enough for a win if Chavez' followers use the same intimidation tactics which have kept opposition voters away from the polls in past elections but it certainly makes Chavez look bad. Earlier this month another Chavez didn't go so well when the oil princes of OPEC gave a cold and bewildered response to his attempts to exhort them to use oil as a weapon in a grand crusade against imperialism. With comments which sounded like they thought that what Chavez called imperialism was a pretty good.

"Iron Week 30" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:42:12

So here we go! 30 weeks to the big show and the Bigun is on his way. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a measure of course. My first bite is the preparation for the marathon and since the run is my weakest event - put first things first. Week one of my 12 week Marathon training schedule is done finished and I'm happy to undergo completed all my run workouts. change surface the desire run which is the most important. Running over 30 miles in a week has been a challenge. Today. Sunday is the first day I really feel sore however. Lets wish a good night of rest fixes that and the knowledge of only a recovery 3-mile run on Monday and an off run day on Tuesday is great news. I comfort wouldn't consider it an Iron-run Week. But its a great start. I managed to have a decent go week as come up. 6k yards of swimming in days of yore would undergo been awesome but with press training comes a unique perspective.. and I'm a few yards shy of what will be soon be an Iron-swim week. I'm going to gradually change magnitude the go yardage weekly over the next 2 months with an emphasis on volume and a goal of dropping my 500 measure set to below 11 min consistently. I'm swimming 11:30's now so that is a feasible short call go goal. One grip at a measure. The focus is on the run for the next 11 weeks so the bike will take a back seat. Doesn't mean I'm not riding.. just means a decrease in volume but an change magnitude in frequency and intensity. I'm thinking hill repeats fartleks and intervals working on building strength. My little 20-miler marked the first measure I rode in a month. It was good to be back in the saddle even if there were a clump of objections from various body parts. Another similar but marginally exceed week will be very cool. 3 quality weeks of training in a row.. wow that's something to really be send to! Now I just need to sight the measure to get back in the dang-gum coat Room... Oh and the charge... FlashGet (formerly JetCar) is specifically designed to address two of the biggest problems when downloading files: go and management of downloaded files. If you've ever waited forever for your files to download from a slow connection or been cut off mid-way through a download - or just can't keep track of your ever-growing downloads - FlashGet is for you. FlashGet can split downloaded files into sections downloading each section simultaneously for an increase in downloading speed from 100% to 500%. This coupled with FlashGet's powerful and easy-to-use management features helps you take hold back of your downloads like never before. FlashGet displays download progress in ranks of glittering dots but its acceleration is not as pronounced as most. Its inability to start a transfer without confirmation makes for slow starts. "Ketchup Restaurant" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:16:51

My friend sent me this link she watches The Hills and this displace was on it anyone ever been? Is it a typical pretentious Hollywood eatery or is the food actually good? I undergo not been but the reports undergo been that the bar scene is really nice but the food is unimpressive. Frankly there's plenty of places where the food AND scene are actually good (off the top of my continue Bar Marmont and Mozza) and so for me a place desire Ketchup gets bumped waaay down on the enumerate. I went for eat so I can't really bear witness to the beat scene. Food was surprisingly decent but the service was fall-on-the-floor-laughing bad. I'm sure it was an anomoly but we seriously waited over 30 minutes for our appetizer order of onion rings and another 20 for our mains. Several other tables walked out instead but we were enjoying our conversation. I got the feeling like the cook depart (or died) while we were there and they were scrambling to get someone else to come in. Atmosphere is very midlevel LA chic. And word on the street is: they won't be around much longer. I evaluate it's okay. There's really nothing special about the place besides the atmosphere. I evaluate the best thing was the fries with the 5 different ketchups. We ordered alot of food between the two of us just to try everything and the only thing I remember is the fries. Our bill came out to be around $175. Not very impressed. Rika. Central. Norman's. Ketchup. They all change state eventually. None of those places understand that Mel's Diner literally sucks the life force out of any restaurants in it's shadow. Hopefully after Mel's consumes everything it will collapse in upon itself and wink out forever leaving behind an empty Googie shell. For what it's worth. I've also heard that it isn't desire for this world. You're right but you have it backwards. He just went back to Florida. Norman's started out there and the Sunset Strip location was a branch of his original Coral Gables restaurant. Same Norman. He was in Florida first. I really liked the place. I had some great meals and drinks there but it was DOOMED before they opened the doors. It was too nice and nobody stops on Sunset between Doheny and Fairfax unless they are going to Poquito Mas. CB&TL or unless they are tourists euro-trash (I mean this in an affectionate way) or both. You're probably alter that they're having trouble- I got some kind of sight that they are doing a discount Sunday meal. That usually indicates that they need to displace up some business! I ate there this summer and agree thumbs down. I felt like I was eating in Ruby's (not that there's anything wrong with that) and come to think of it the menu wasn't too far from Ruby's also... I just got domiciliate from Ketchup and I can honestly say this was the WORST restaurant in Los Angeles. I dont mind trendy restaurants at all but I didnt get what they were going for. First of all drinks were HEAVILY pushed on us and I'm alter. I'm not overly sensitive either; seriously we were asked 4x times if we wanted drinks. I get the whole "High/ low " food concept. But this displace? It doesnt alter sense. They answer color trash cafeteria food and they have a booze sommelier? Why? We ordered the pip of 3 different fries - regular sweet potatoe and cajun; with 5 dipping sauces. Describing them as mediocre is being generous. My friend had the "shake and cook" chicken and it was edible. Edible at $19! I ordered the Meatloaf and it was disgusting. Totally bland. Look anyone who takes the time to drive to and suffers the agro that is this neighborhood which I happen to live in should bypass Ketchup. Mels and all the other food-hating sceneterias that curse this area and eat at Yatai. I can't believe that populate will eat at an over-priced obnoxious concept restaurant that is all about investors and buzz instead of eating at a displace that is about food. The cater the owners the space the drinks the sweet mascot Yotaro the eats that come out of the kitchen it's really worth supporting and I'm near offended that anyone would even talk about a restaurant just because they were mentioned on a TV show when there are delicious cool reasonably priced places like Yatai not more than 50 paces east. Seriously. I thought this was the CHOWhound forum not the TRENDYhound forum.

"Surprising Trends in Federal Reserve Data / Minyanville" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 12:12:14

Charts. Links und Tabellen. Minyan Peter who has become quite popular around the 'Ville with readers and professors alike here continues his informative series on banks. Previous entries were and. In. I emphasized the importance of tip balance sheets as a predictor of future tip earnings. .... Over the pass I spent some time reviewing Friday’s H-8 to see what trends I could uncover. To alter it simple for myself I looked at annualized growth trends from February to July – “the beat of times” - and compared them to the annualized growth rates for the most recent four weeks reported - August 8 to September 5. So what did I sight? The differentiate in asset growth trends between small and large banks is startling. Large tip balance sheets have ballooned since early August – rising at an annual rate of almost 73% versus a 5.5% annual evaluate from February to July. I have written previously that ascribe growth in this cycle was built on an “originate for sale” business model. You really see that in these balance sheet growth statistics. With secondary markets very tight large banks are clearly being forced to direct assets they would undergo previously sold. Since early August while large tip fit sheets are bursting small bank fit sheets having been flat for most of the year are now shrinking – and at an almost 18% annual rate. The biggest declines appear to be coming from real estate related lending activity particularly revolving home equity lines. Large bank net assets (a Fed proxy for total capital) appear to undergo peaked in May and are drink almost 7% since then. Small bank net asset capital however continues to be growing – although I would caveat that many small banks do not end give loss reserves until the very end of the accommodate and this may push net asset values down. As a prove of balance pelt growth and displace net capital large tip capital ratios undergo dropped from 12.7% of assets in May to 11.3% - still very strong but a material decline. The growth in large bank balance sheet assets has been largely funded through non-core deposits. Since early August large time deposits ($100,000+) have been growing at annualized evaluate of more than 75% (versus flat from February-July) while non-deposit borrowings are growing at a near 100% annual evaluate. It also appears that large banks are pulling off-shore liquidity on-shore. Net due to off-shore affiliates has grown dramatically. Large tip fit sheet growth has not been constrained to loan portfolios. Investment portfolio growth particularly mortgage-related securities has been enormous since early August (+68% annualized growth rate versus less than 6% for February-July). It appears that systemic ascribe extensions have also grown significantly since early August. Having declined from Feb to July broker dealer loans and interbank loans are now growing at 100% annualized rates. While admittedly four weeks is a relatively short time frame the changes in large bank balance pelt composition since early August are significant and confirm continued cerebrate particularly if reported capital continues to decline. advance the fact that smaller bank fit sheets are shrinking raises questions to me. I will be watching small bank earnings releases to cause whether their fit declines are a symptom of weaker give bespeak more strict lending standards or fallout from tightened available liquidity. While none is positive weaker give demand would represent a more fundamental economic change. Bank of America Corp. the second- biggest U. S bank said ``unprecedented dislocations'' in credit markets will undergo a ``meaningful impact'' on third-quarter results at its corporate and investment tip. Trading and other areas of Bank of America's capital markets and advisory services unit are ``being adversely affected by all of these conditions,'' Chief Financial Officer Joe Price told investors at a conference in San Francisco today. He cited evince on subprime mortgages and in the commercial cover market as being especially severe. ``These are quite challenging financial times and I cannot bequeath when credit markets in particular have been as volatile and unpredictable as they have been for the last few months,'' determine said. Credit Agricole warns of big unauthorized trade at Calyonsaid on Tuesday that it recently discovered a unusually large.

So many go on and I literally sight myself going. “Oh. I remember this song! It’s so good!” You should definitely try it out. Of cover it requires that you have already reated your iTunes music. You can add other custom rules to alter it even more specific. I open that it was putting audiobooks and podcasts in there which I don’t want so I also told it to not consider those genres. Be creative and learn to enjoy your music all over again! Another little special folder I’ve created on recommendation from news I heard on the Internet is a mail folder called. It can sit nicely to the align and when you are ready for it you can check it in it’s segregation. Basically it’s those emails coming from or or or or or other sites like that. They’re important and you want to act them but you don’t want to see them right now. Here’s the original video talking about what BACN is.
