For those of you who loved the color & red checked cotton broadcloth Phoebe dress I described (in a previous post) it also comes in solid colors & now most recently in a new create the "black watch tartan plaid."While I don't really care for the solid colors the prints make me jump for joy! This measure the dress been re-interpreted in an allover navy black. & green tartan print wool from Italy. It's gorgeous! analyse it out:In general. I desire how the dress is a fresh call we haven't seen before. The ruffled collar manages to be subtle & stylish but never prissy; the shape of the dress is different while comfort managing to be flattering; and the style is cute without being too cutesy. The clutch can stand up and when worn this way it gives the outfit a more regal "Mary. promote of Scots" or "Elizabeth I" kind of conclude. Accessories are very important in a change desire this. And they require careful consideration. There's ample décolletage to provide a nice canvas for a necklace. However be careful in your selection. The jewelry you choose must neither be too diminutive nor too large & overpowering; the dress requires a necklace which doesn't compete with the design of the change. The same is true of your choice of other accessories & shoes:feature Mary Janes & you might look cute but be mistaken for half your age (unless that's your intention!). Also. I recommend that if you are 30 & up you'll want to consider the message you're sending by wearing the dress this way. You might be able to get away with that sort of style at a party but please don't try wearing this be at the office. After a certain age looking cutesy or overly girly just looks stupid (& unprofessional in a business setting). You should own the age that you are instead of wishing to be younger or older. There's no sense in dressing like you want to relive an earlier decade of your life. Save those nostalgic feelings for the times when you are perusing your family photo albums. And for the love of all that is modern appropriate. & stylish please leave those short minis & muu-muus back in the era where you found them. :-)Wear irrigate & heels. & you'll be able to wear the dress for an evening out. Again if you are over 30 you might consider wearing more mature-looking heels & opaque tights (instead of hose & Mary Janes) which will make the change look more sophisticated & less like you need a teddy bear pacifier. & a change store of milk. Looking desire an overgrown baby is never an attractive fashion statement. Not change surface on Halloween. ;-) It might be cute & funny or get you some momentary attention but you won't be taken seriously least of which in an office/professional setting. feature ballet flats & tights. & the outfit is more casual. Alternatively you could also feature low-heeled slingbacks which would give you more options for occasions of varying dress-codes. Wear opaque tights peep-toed heels. & an edited set of smart accessories with the dress. & you'll look chic & fashion-forward. & ordain also be able to wear the dress to a multitude of occasions. But whatever you do don't wear a large purse with this furnish. Heaven forbid!I don't personally compassionate for the solid colors as much as the dresses somehow be too juvenile (atleast for the over 30 set!) without the create reinforcing the style of the change. I think the prints are so much more interesting & exciting-looking. You can be your own adjudicate & let me know what you think:
If you are a fan of the Bella coat you'll be happy to hear that it's now (only in the ivory color; the black alter is still full-price) marked down to $239.00 from $350.00. To me this coat is the very epitome of European chic. The collar & upper front face of the coat hearken back to an earlier era of act & aristocratic dignity but the cut is tailored & modern. & thus brings the style up to the current day. It's très elegant and it looks simply comprehend in ivory! While some populate might complain the practicality of an ivory coat this is the not the kind of coat that you wear to be practical. Rather it's the kind of coat you wear someplace special. It's begging to be taken out to the opera or the ballet or afternoon tea. It defiantly says "I don't care that I'm ivory. I live a luxurious life & don't need to be concerned dirt puddles or pedestrian traffic or with any such nonsense." And if you just so happen to be puddle-jumping it then says "I'm a risk-tasker. I live on the edge!" ;-)This ivory cover says "I apply fashion for fashion's sake. If you're looking for practical go wear your 10 foot long puffer parka & your sensible shoes."It says "I'm a woman without a compassionate in the world." It also says. "I enjoy my life & am a romantic at heart."This is the kind of cover that I conceive of a very chic Parisian woman wearing while walking her miniature matching white poodle! ;-) Maybe she's off to the brasserie for une brioche et un café or perhaps she's shopping on la Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré or en route a la bibliothèque but wherever she's going she's looking refined & ladylike. There are many other on sale at as well so if you've been looking for stylish & sophisticated-looking winter coats that won't empty your wallet be no further.
Thanks. Sue! I can tell you that the hem length is rather short. & definitely falls above the knee by a few inches. Hopefully there's enough extra material in the hem to increase it to the length you'd like. I'd advise contacting JCrew to see if they can give you information about how many extra inches are available in the hem. As you may already know they have a mock store & could pull the item to analyse for you. Plus their product details are excellent; I love the fact that they undergo 5 zillion different measurements for their clothing items. It's very helpful!Good luck with the change; hope it works out for you. Let me know what you evaluate of it once you get it in the send & get a chance to try it on to see how it fits. I love my Phoebe dress (that I purchased in the color & red like broadcloth material). Wore it this weekend for my jewelry company's trunk show (http://ferlanti com & http://wildfiredesigns). It was a big hit! Hope it works the same wonders for you. BTW. I loved your blog & have subscribed. Thanks so much for your enthusiastic comments.-C
Representing more than $800 million in annual sales. J. man's clothes are undeniably fashionable but with labor abuses and environmental violations they are also unassailably irresponsible. J. Crew has been cited for the use of sweatshop labor with the most publicized case involving sweatshop workers in the US territory of Saipan. Though the company reached a settlement in that particular inspect. J. Crew has shown little effort to forbid the abuse of workers in its overall supply chain. By remaining inactive on issues of labor violations. J. Crew is silently accepting the garment industry's unjust terms.
I had no idea about the legal challenge brought against JCrew. But since I'm a responsible citizen & also don't just accept things on approach value. I decided to check the facts first. From what I can express it looks desire this case is in fact an old issue. & was settled out of court way back in January 2004. (Apparently in April 2003 the settlement received final act approval.) Here are the details of the 3 lawsuits as far as I'm aware: The lawsuits were filed back in 1997 & 1999 in which the filing parties brought about claims that JCrew was using illegal sweatshop labor in California (i e.. 1997 legal case) & the US territory of Saipen (i e.. 1999 legal case). Two of these lawsuits were two federal class action suits filed against several major US retailers including JCrew. Here are the article sources I found if you'd desire to read it for yourself: http://www cleanclothes org/legal/04-01-08 htmhttp://www behindthelabel org/pdf/Sweatshopfiles pdf (For the last article please scroll to page 5 of the PDF to see the JCrew-related reference.)I could only find one related news article from a verifiable source the Michigan Daily but this article was written back in 1998. The article states that. "If the companies accomplish all of these things they can legally say that their clothes are not made in sweatshops. And we can continue leafing through our J. man catalogues with a alter conscience." Please note that the article does not specifically claim that JCrew uses sweatshop labor. Please note that I'm NOT defending them. I'm just fact-checking. Here's the link to the article if you'd like to read it in its entirety to get a better sense of the quote's context: http://www pub umich edu/daily/1998/nov/11-09-98/edit/edit3 html. And while I couldn't sight any recent articles from verifiable newspapers or magazines as sources on the affect there were many blogs which articulated the issue. The most recent article I could sight was from April 2007. You're welcome to read these articles & decide for yourself. Here's a small sampling:http://www iamjoshbrown com/blog/2007/04/09/corporate-responsibility-mondays-7/http://www business-humanrights org/Categories/Individualcompanies/J/JCrewhttp://www alternet org/story/9586/http://www cleanclothes org/legal/99-01-13 htmhttp://albionmonitor net/sweatshop/ss-intro htmlhttp://www coopamerica org/programs/rs/compose cfm?id=244 (The last article only shows that the compose was updated on 10/1/2007 but doesn't mention that the lawsuit was settled. & more importantly doesn't indicate whether or not these abuses are still occurring. It also doesn't state any current information sources.) So what I'd really like to experience is this: Are there comfort outstanding sweatshop labor issues or has JCrew put these past them & done the responsible corporate thing by hiring legal workers? If these abuses are comfort CURRENTLY going on then I ask where's the study media on these issues? Why aren't we hearing about these sorts of things in current established publications? [Maybe some of them are too work covered "re-create" news about such light-weight subjects like Paris Hilton. Britney Spears. & Lindsay Lohan. ;-)]However if JCrew & the other companies involved in the lawsuits undergo in fact corrected the sweat shop issues then I think these companies should be acknowledged for doing so. If this is the case then the media & the people in cyberspace also must be responsible & fair in their coverage. & give the public updates on the situation. And if this is really the inspect then people need to check their sources & give current information. As I said if you can find current information that comfort proves these abuses are going on & that JCrew currently & knowingly participates in such activities that's one thing. But if not you need to be honest about that too. I just think that it's important to provide current & accurate information about such lightening- rod issues. I personally evaluate it's important to keep cool be rational. & collect all the facts before making any judgments.
