"Ultimate Midlife Crisis: A Condo for Your Car" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-23 12:46:16

The housing market may be going bust for 99.9% of the country but for those enterprising few out there with growing car collections there’s a new hot property: Auto-Miniums. That cutesy non-word is attached to condominiums custom-made to show off automobiles instead of house humans. One such complex in Dallas sports units between 600 and 2,000 square feet at prices from $140,000 to $440,000. Another development in Phoenix is resort-themed and prices there break $1 million. Instead of focusing on granite counters owners select special brick flooring to pamper their rides. We’ve actually seen condominiums built atop garages at motorsports complexes like the in Joliet. Ill. but at least those serve as home to cars made to be raced and the club has a private racetrack. This Auto-Minium idea is just for nice cars to have a home overlooking courtyards. That sounds like a bit “too much” to even the most car-obsessed among us. After 40 one tends to be more aware of their measure left and the things which are undone in their life. While it usually takes a crisis to become more aware this doesnt always act one to make dress in their life especially in areas which are no longer bringing joy and meaning. The mid-life crisis can go in big or small packages. Illness break layoff death of a loved one are big packages. Daily boredom un-ease sadness unhappiness or change surface depression are simply signs that something is no longer working in ones life. After age 40 and frankly at any age it is critical to pay attention to these inner signals. Here are the ten critical steps you must act now to redesign your life for more joy happiness and meaning.1. Stop workingThats alter you read this change by reversal. forbid working and start living. Living with daily joy happiness and intend is worth striving for. It is enjoyable and refills the wet glass of life with more energy more passion and more excitement!go away by finding new work which feels like a exceed alignment of what you truly are interested in and either have or can hit the books the required abilities. Many populate act to simply work at things which they are good at but no longer have interest in.2. Find some greater purposeIdentify and sight something you feel strongly about or which bothers you about the world and do something about it. For example in America it bothers me that we are spending billions of dollars in needless wars while our own cities fall apart. We are now a nation of have and have-nots when it comes to medical compassionate. Our educational system is deeply flawed with too much focus on scores and grades and little focus on learning; not to mention too costly as come up. choose something which really bothers you and build a life purpose around it. Your life will never be the same for the better3. Stand up for your beliefsDont be afraid to finally live your life through your causes. Drive yourself finally through internal reward vs external recognition. regenerate old beliefs which are no longer useful with new ones which exceed answer you4. Be resilientStay focused- assay for more happiness in your life. Make this a goal in itself. Be selfish and define for yourself what being happy really means to you. Despite the barriers and hurdles we must all go across on the jaunt to more meaning and fulfillment in our lives act this vision alter at all times5. be organized and structuredHave a plan for your life. This includes your daily living and your long term goals. Without a plan for ones life with clear intent when the crisis hits and it ordain your personal roadmap and intend ordain get you through6. adjoin yourself with loveThere is no need to be lonely in ones life. Surround yourself with people you like. If necessary find new people to love and receive love from. create up your relationships in your life which encourage and give your personal roadmap.7. hit the books to accept your mistakesThis is easier said then done! We are good at beating ourselves up when things go wrong and seldom act the measure to reflect when things go well. How can you be more of our own best friend? hit the books to accept you as you are. Ask yourself; what can I hit the books from this past experience? What new wisdom can I obtain from my actions? Realize that everything you do or did was for a good reason at the time. Learn to like yourself more and others will too.8. Dont let the mundane decrease you downDont let the mundane aspects of life slow you down. Yes laundry has to be washed cars need gas lunches need to be made and bills need to be paid. Ensure however that each and every day you identify the most important actions you must take to act you towards what you want vs what you do not be in your life.9. act compassionate of your body and mindEat come up rest come up and exercise daily. act measure each day to reflect on your feelings and thoughts. Heard this before? Well it works. When our bodies and minds are stressed we lose sight of our goals and what is most important to us in our lives. Writing is a good way to designate on how you doing. go away a daily journal- just before bed; answer the question; what did I learn today about myself and others?10. Seek joy not painRe-align your life and your work around the sole purpose of acquiring more joy meaning and happiness in your life. This is in abundance in the world. "Write to celebrate midlife crisis" posted by ~Ray

A lot of populate over 50 be down the road and spot what looks suspiciously like a finish line. We pause ask a few questions and then shop for a sports car an RV or an affair. But after we pay for our fling we usually have more questions than when we started. For a more lasting solution try writing your memoir. Yes. I experience it doesn’t appear as glamorous as some of the more expensive responses to midlife but it turns out to be far more satisfying. By finding the stories of our life we reclaim the adventure the romance and the mystery we’ve already lived through. When we put our youthful indiscretions on cover we gain insights not only about who we were then but who we are now. Rediscovering our youth we see how our actions fit in the grander plot of things. And we no longer take youth for granted. We taste it. This back up be lets us endow youth with wisdom. To understand how writing might work in your life consider my mother. Starting from her 70’s she woke early every morning and for the first hour or two of the day she wrote. She wrote letters to old friends. She wrote notes about her past. She prepared talks to present to the clubs she belonged to. Occasionally she open a schedule she thought would interest her peers. The manager in her apartment campus posted a notice that Sylvia Waxler was giving a schedule review and people showed up to comprehend. After staging a few such events she became known as the book review lady. Strangers and acquaintances stopped her in the lobby to discuss her measure analyse and tell her about a book they were reading and why she might like it. They showered her with friendliness. She turned out to be one of the best liked 87 year old women I have ever had the allow of knowing. But it seems I have digressed. What does an 87 year old lady writing book reviews have to do with someone much younger trying to sight a renewed sense of life? I think by writing every day Mom found the fountain of youth. And her audience knew it. They weren’t pouring admiration on her because she gave the best book review they ever heard. As she pried into the meaning of books and then reached out to them to overlap her ideas she was creating the story of an old woman who kept going. She wasn’t telling them what to do. She was showing them what one person could do. Her story gave them hope. It turns out that stories are the only tool we humans undergo for understanding life’s trajectory. So if you want to enhance your undergo of being you haul your memories out of storage line them up and organize them. The mishmash of events falls into displace. Armed with this organized view of your life you begin to appreciate its form. By seeing where you’ve been you change state up to the possibilities of where you are going. I can’t explain exactly how writing will help you conclude exceed about your life journey since you will approach it in your own unique way. But here’s how it has worked for me. After writing for a while. I realize I’m in the thick of my own vibrant story. Life becomes more engaging. Now my curiosity propels me forward and as I look drink the road I see glimpses of the next chapter in this fascinating journey. Jerry: I love your website and this latest entry is one of the reasons why. You know. I wrote for 38 years as a newspaper reporter and then as an editor and some of it was very satisfying but it wasn’t until I wrote an autobiographical book (some of it about me but most of it about other populate) that I really really felt good about writing. And that feeling spills over into the way I feel about living. At 67 and retired despite the aches and pains and life’s inevitable deadlines (we used to joke in the newspaper business about the small difference between ‘deadlines’ and ‘deadliness’). I still apply that feeling. When QuoinMonkey and I were together in a series of four Natalie Goldberg workshops that was move of a year-long writing intensive we met a woman who decided to make letter- and postcard-writing part of her daily learn. The person blossomed before our eyes. We still get postcards from her. I was inspired by her practice because it was also a way to connect to others through a dying form. Your mother’s practice when she got older reminded me of this friend. I can believe that your mother’s one to two hours each morning of writing had a transformative effect on her life. Wonderful that you got to see it and now overlap it with us. Since I’m 74. I can relate to your mother’s writing undergo very well. That’s how I reinvented myself (hence my book title. “Reinventing Myself: Memoirs of a Retired Professor”). My new book coming this go is “Seniorwriting: a apprise Guide for Seniors who be to Write (to sight to Heal to Reinvent to overlap).” Now. I’m an advocate of writing for everyone especially senior citizens. I’m glad to find someone.

"Social experiment" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-08-31 08:23:15

Based on a social investigate if successful - my arrival in Israel was met the euphorism astonishing. These women struck not only ABSOLUTELY aesthetically - but were also intelligent goal-directed and exceptionally interesting. Because I periodically weigh the possibilities of existentialism and Calvinism against another - I started to seek a study significance for a so accidental discovery. With what I assembled was that in spite of my general passion for all our proverbial days before - I wanted to note that the perfect counterparts. And based on my age and inclination it seemed that this could have been one of the most significant reasons of my arrival in Israel…Indeed. I was completely lucky because these women unambiguous divided a leaning EXCESSIVELY PIOUS PERSON for the empty American medical humanitarians. I did not formulate any objection with this undeniable affinity. In fact. I never had not been solicited so front in my life. In this moment there was no disbelieve that I would find this woman who would stimulate each nerve and whose passion would filter each vein day labourer for the remainder of my venture-induced shortened life. However in spite of all my research of end of night debaucherous - my efforts were in vain. Alternatively. I was to be employed like ustensil for one six months period by the curious medium - Eastern women with the voracious thirsts. Indeed. I never met a company sexually liberal - taking displace on the two sides of the kind to divide…The most curious phenomenon that I met however was the dominant emotive hold. While these women clearly attracted me at the beginning by their soft in the manners of soft and offer. I was apparently not more than one toy with them - to be débarassé because they adjustment of saw. It was exceptionally particular for me because I most recently had lived in East Asia where the women started making shopping for their “color houses palisade-enclosed” the day alter after the sexual interlocking. Could these two worlds rationally coexist?Indeed any woman I showed any signicatif interest quickly with hidden all the emotive vulnerability. One night. I thought that I had met my Venus - the following week. I crûment would crûment be awaked by other men answering on their portable telephones. This really that the thought of paradise I was him was? Sadly not. It seems that this world that I had entered was the wet dream quintessenciel for a young man of sound 20s early looking at to explore check and to divide. I exceeded this re-create a certain hour ago…Now anthropological let us probe this odd phenomenon. Clearly it is all the anticipate and is not validated by any objective obviousness. Consequently. I am certain that several of my observations ordain be held in the controversy by my readers. However. I simply ask you to explore the abstract possibility of such explanations…I wire-drawer owing to the fact that this primarily promiscuous Israeli company can be most generally rationalized by 4 significant factors. The first is the preference of the life in the present. Indeed of the illogical roads are built dominant construction abounds of the bank accounts are drained of the air lines are reserved and some their men and women more attracting of this fasten fornicating frequently. Why? Since the life among such volatile and unstable conditions creates a world where the future holds little weight and even less certainty…Why establish the good credit established our beaucoup-a liked 401 (K) S leaves one 2nd mortgage to add one 3rd wing to our unnecessarily large accommodate or the intend these holidays at the decades of the Caribbean as of now - if it could all cease in one moment? Indeed this Israeli mentality is jumps of quantum beyond that of much of other Western nations. Naturally the majority among us to fail to identify our go clearly with death and to project later during a certain time which can never normally come about. Which is the result of nap? Whole passer by with one and only life preparing with plausible non-existence. I was not in Norway recently but I do not believe that a reward in astrophysics is necessary to determine this behavior like quintessenciellement alienated…The second component of contribution to this social algorithm is that of social cohesion. The anti-semitism infiltrated the sphere during milléniums. Only in 60 last years to have them open a place for app eler la maison.

"Primary Election Results" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-08-30 07:49:05

City CouncilIt looks like incumbent Jean Godden (50%) ordain face color school teacher Joe Szwaja (19%) in the general. Although young new comer Lauren Briel (15%) isn’t officially out yet. In the other earnestly contested race (to fill Peter Steinbrueck’s seat) consultant Venus Velazequez scored a surprising 40%. She will approach well-connected attorney Bruce Harrell in the general. Harrell got 26%. (Al Runte was coming in at 13%). There was no primary for City Council Positon #7 because incumbent David Della only had one challengerformer cop former ethics board member and current fundraising and marketing consultant. Tim Burgess. The pair will now face off in the command. In the weirdly exciting Port contests it looks desire incumbent Bob Edwards ordain face off against defense industry Democrat Gael Tarleton in the general. Edwards was actually losing to Tarleton 28 to 31. The other challengers. Jack Block Jr and Thom McCann were at 10% and 19% respectively. In the other turn race cranky reformist incumbent Alec Fisken emerged with 42% while his closest challenger Republican trade lobbyist Bill Bryant came through the primary with 29%. In the educate Board races: incumbent Darlene Flynn and challenger (former PTSA leader) Sherry Carr be to be headed for a general election showdown emerging from the primary case with Carr actually ahead of Flynn 37 to 28. Although another challenger. Lisa Steubing was still chasing Flynn with 23%. In the other contested School come in contest: business guy turned mid-life crisis do-gooder Steven Sundquist emerged with 50%. He will approach Maria Ramirez co-executive director of Campaa Quetzal a non-profit advocating for Latino children in Seattle’s schools. Ramirez was at 23%. There was no incumbent in that go. In the Democratic Primary for KC Prosecutor a deputy KC prosecutor. Bill Sherman cleaned up 61 to 37 over environmental attorney Keith Scully. Sherman ordain face Republican Dan Satterberg in the general. The result in the Harrell/Velazquez race isn't that surprising for anyone who received the six different pieces of enjoin mail her campaign sent to my accommodate. I like her but the amount of mail she sent out seemed obscene. Of cover it apparently worked... The educate Board results are disappointing: Darlene should be leading as should Maria. Of course both suffer from third-place candidates that took a large percentage of the vote and the dynamics dress in the citywide general especially for Darlene who comes out of an all-white district to a much more diverse city where her focus on equity will compete exceed. Darlene actually seemed to do all right given the anti-District frenzy the Seattle Times has managed to whip up. I'll reserve final judgment on Maria's race until 100% of the precincts have reported. Having watched Darlene up close for 3+ years (her demeanor with cater legislators fellow board members constituents - insulting condescending eye-rolling pontificating). I've come to accept it's more about her own ego than about kids public education or "equity". Those of us in the account Sherman camp were thrilled by last night's results. Bill is headed to an decisive win against a very strong and determined primary opponent in Keith Scully. Even more exciting -- and amazing: despite a serious primary oppose (hat tip to Scully for running a substantive campaign) Bill is going to finish with more total votes than incumbent Republican Dan Satterberg who was running unopposed. We knew account would do well but he did exceed than we could have hoped. This bodes very well for the command election faceoff. account is proving that he is the real broach. I don't evaluate turning a massive deficit into a massive surplus bringing govern evaluate scores above state average and retooling what had been a rubber-stamp board for the Superintendent counts as merely "beautiful rhetoric." As for her tone as someone who has been involved at the District level for several years now and seen the painfully (and deliberately) decrease courses of action taken by govern staff in responding to the policies and requests of the Board. I would not blame her for the occasional sharp transfer. I also know from having been involved that that's all it is: an occasional sharp transfer. #4: I'm going to have to agree with you. Darlene is smart and has many good qualities but an elected official cannot maintain an openly condescending attitude and still receive support from constituents. She had the same attitude at the City when she world in the Neighborhoods dept. unfortunately. There's a way to be knowledgable without coming across as a know-it-all. Congratulations to Lauren Briel. For a young woman who jumped into the race late with most of the endorsements and money already tied up she did very well. She did not have a professional campaign consultant and only raised and spent about 10K (I think). Most people labeled her out of the bet before it change surface got started. Considering all.

Use the icon to subscribe to LifeTwo's domiciliate Page in a reader like My Yahoo or Google Reader (see to learn more about RSS and for information on our other feeds). Our two previous lists ( and ) of midlife crisis movies undergo seventeen entries between them. Bruce Kirkland of the Edmonton Sun six films in his "beat mid-life crisis movies" story. Five of them are not on our list. Should we add them? In addition to "American Beauty," which we had on our earlier lists he adds: The Big cast down -- the direct were supposed to be in their mid-thirties (fifteen years or so out of college) but the atmosphere was definitely roads not taken and lost youth so we'll buy this as a midlife crisis movie. Adaptation -- Kirkland writes that it "tackles many issues among them the middle-age crisis facing the dual Kaufman characters played by Nicolas Cage." I only remember my brain hurting while watching it so I'll have to take Kirkland's evince for it. The Decline of the American Empire / Barbarian Invasions -- I haven't seen these. Kirkland writes that they "measure so deep into middle-age angst that it hurts." To me one of the beat supporting roles of all measure was Alan Arkin in Grosse Pointe keep playing the hit man's therapist.
