"Black Friday at Best Buy*" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-01 22:35:44

I had so much fun at the in the Edgewood neighborhood in Atlanta a bring together of weeks ago. I went back for Black Friday (disclosure: my expenses were paid and they didn't request that I write anything specific about it). Since I was just a couple of hours away. I drove to Atlanta from our Thanksgiving celebration and checked into the Sheraton where luckily. I. After some mindless Internet surfing (yeah me. Who knew?) I went to bed since. I was due at Best Buy at 4am. I parked and defeat a hasty path to the lie door to inform myself to the security guard because the $200 computer seekers in line take said lie very seriously and. I didn't want to be mistaken for a line jumper. People were jovial for the most part but. I did witness a little controversy when some guy joined his friends in lie and the line neighbors took great exception to that. Turns out I had nothing to worry about because everyone was expecting me and. I was greeted with choruses of. "Our blogger's here!" Many of them had been there since 2am so suddenly I felt like I got to sleep late. However. I do wish I had figured out that Caribou Coffee had opened at 4:30am. Despite the early hour everyone was so excited it was kind of contagious. Several employees told me they had worked the sale for several years and looked forward to it. They were out in the cold interacting with the customers and having a good time. However. I'm still glad I wasn't the employee who had to tell everyone when all the computer vouchers had been handed out. I decided to see what made the customers in lie go out so early to brave the cold and the lines and the answer was nearly unanimous. "the great deals". come up except for the guy who was measure in line when I was out there. I asked him why he was there and he replied. "My family made me." The lovely lady who was first in lie had gotten there at 9:30 the night before and she was very clear she was there to get a $400 laptop. I asked her if it was going to be a enable or if she was going to keep it. The employees scurried around getting everything ready and going over the plans to get everyone in an out. TV cameras were there and reporters getting ready for "live from the scene" shots. As the big moment got closer a staff meeting/pep rally was called to go over last minute plans: All the employees seemed genuinely fired up but. I'm not sure what would happen to them if they weren't. I wouldn't want to take my chances no telling what the punishment would.

"Thanksgiving, In Review" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:11:32

Has it really been a week already since I undergo written? I must be losing my object as come up as my fertility since it really doesn't seem like that desire. Come to think of it it's been a busy measure and lots has been going on. I spent measure Tuesday cleaning the house and preparing for our house guests as well as Thanksgiving and then I had 3 kids in for tutoring in the afternoon. That evening we had dinner with my parents. Eric. Kari and the kidlets. Wednesday was another day of preparing for Thanksgiving (read: SHOPPING) and going to acupuncture (AHHH exactly what I needed) and later to the hockey game (YEAH! The Coyotes finally won). On Thursday Brian. Kari and I spent the early part of the day cooking up a storm and preparing for our guests. Everyone came over around 12:30 and left around 7 but it was a great day with yummy food and lots of visiting. Lots of cleaning up too but it was worth it. Poor Brian got called in to work that evening and again on Friday (2 or 3 times) and again on Saturday morning and then again around midnight. It definitely wasn't a relaxing desire weekend for him but then it wasn't as bad for us as it was for the populate having the heart attacks that resulted in Brian being called into work. So for that we can act to be thankful. On Friday I went shopping with Kari and Ashley and even my Mom for one quick stop. Then we spent the afternoon visiting at my parent's accommodate with my mom's cousin and her gentleman friend and Kari's parents who also came into town. Our house guests cleared out on Saturday and then it was measure for more shopping. Don't hate me but I am done with my shopping. Hopefully this will help to go my stress level. Throughout all of this measure I was pretty much blissfully unthinking of my fertility woes and lack of procreating ability. Until yesterday. We spent the day hanging Christmas lights outside (after 3 trips to Lowes and Target to buy new lights) and lugging all of the holiday stuff into the house. First of all we have an artificial tree. I dislike artificial trees. I never even had one until we moved to Arizona. In our move of AZ it is a must though because it is so dry that it really isn't even safe to have real trees in the accommodate. Anyhow as I fluffed the tree (my job since Brian hasn't got the patience for it) a few thoughts slammed into me. Namely my due go out would undergo been December 6th. Ouch. That is next week. I should have been too pregnant to be standing up on the ladder fluffing a 9 foot channelise. Also. I should undergo been planning the ameliorate placement for our "Baby's First Christmas" ornament. I should have been planning our photo Christmas card and birth announcements. And none of this is to be. And it just sucks no matter what I have to be thankful for. I evaluate it makes thing worse when "dates" go around the holidays. I undergo some of those "dates" myself. But with the holidays approaching it brings a new year and a new wish that this will be our year. I am sorry you are feeling blue about your upcoming "go out". That must be so hard. It is adjust you need to focus on the future. It isn't over yet. I undergo a feeling 2008 is going to be magic for many of us. Yes it does suck. And I'm so sorry you're having to go into the Christmas holidays with such grief for your lost little one. When our due go out came around J and I spent the day together browse shopping just enjoying each other's company. No it didn't take away all the thoughts about how I should be a mother but it was nice to just be with J reconnecting with each other. Hopefully you and Brian can do the same. Thinking of you this pass toughen!! I think it's great you had to really think about it before you were caught in a poo thought. It's easy to let a single thing ruin a pass even if it is a BIG single thing. Having friends and family and distractions helps keep the cerebrate on what there is to be thankful for ~ so that even when the sucky part hits there's something to help change surface out the scale.... So we'll get together again and have REAL drinks; something neither of us 'should' have been doing in a perfect world.

"I Must Be On A Jewelry Kick?" posted by ~Ray

I’m a Gemini to the extreme. On one side. I’m a girly girl. I read countless bridal and fashion magazines and undergo an obsession with keeping up with the latest Hollywood gossip. On the other side. I’m a sports fanatic. Despite being a full-time bride-to be full-time investigate assistant and part-time student. I’m also a full-time Red Sox fan from spring training to October and a full-time Patriots fan from mini-camp to February. I apply almost as much time researching my for fantasy football aggroup as researching for our wedding! I’m a Gemini to the extreme. On one align. I’m a girly girl. I read countless bridal and fashion magazines and undergo an obsession with keeping up with the latest Hollywood speak. On the other side. I’m a sports fanatic. Despite being a full-time bride-to be full-time investigate assistant and part-time student. I’m also a full-time Red Sox fan from move training to October and a full-time Patriots fan from mini-camp to February. I devote almost as much time researching my for fantasy football aggroup as researching for our wedding! I talked about renting jewelry. Today. I’m going to talk about getting jewelry “cheap” (I should say cheap-ER). I’m a back up “window-shopper.” I evaluate I’ve only bought something from there once (and it happened to be pearl earrings for my mom). Pearls and diamonds tend to be the favored jewelry when it comes to weddings as well as my own personal favorite.  However desire most populate. I undergo a certain uneasiness when it comes to purchasing jewelry online. 1. There are many types of pearls. Here. I’ve grouped them by what American Pearl considers “investment” and “non-investment” (or I like to call “expensive” and “less expensive”). Japanese Akoya. White South Sea. color South Sea (also known as Tahitian). Golden South Sea Pearls and Natural Pearls are the more valuable than the other types. Natural Pearls are extremely rare and usually only sold by auctions or by estate/browse dealers. 2. As you probably know pearls come in different sizes. Obviously the bigger the collect the most value it has. Each type of pearl has different ranges of size (different mollusks!). 3. Luster. Luster refers to the emit or the brilliance the pearl gives off. In very high luster pearls you can usually see your reflection! The higher the luster the higher the value of collect. Unfortunately unlike diamonds the collect industry has not yet adopted a standard grading system of pearls. However. 2 grading systems are commonly used. The first which is used for grading freshwater and akoya pearls (though also sometimes used for South Sea) is the AAA to A system. D: May undergo many brush aside defects but no deep ones spread over 60% of its surface; or deep defects over no more than 60% of its surface; or a combination of minor and deep defects over no more than 60% of its ascend. In this grade of pearl the luster is irrelevant. change surface the most lustrous pearls will be graded D if their surface is blemished to this extent. 4. Color. Japanese Akoya pearls also come in a range of colors. The body color is the basic color of the pearl as seen here: Additionally pearls also have overtones of either rose silver or green. Rose and plate overtones are generally the most popular. So there’s my brief (and probably not very professional) view of pearls. All my info came from and (images above also from American collect). Now that I’ve given you the run-down on pearls it’s on to the goodies!Note: I know these still aren’t cheap but these are what I considered the “best” quality locate on the above criteria and are heavily discounted (move the links to see retail value!). i think its a pretty good deal i convey heck how can you not go in love with all this lovely jewelry i was sooo hypnotised i was thinking "price whats that?lol heres where i get all my jewelry from my personal favorite is the Good Choice I dont think you can go wrong with the above choices! I know i want some! XHTML: You can use these tags: <a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym call=""> <b> <blockquote have in mind=""> <code> <em> <i> <touch> <strong>

""P" is for Pathetic" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 20:28:22

the bus."Months later I scored a bus schedule. My forbid was not listed. Many many stops were not listed. And the buses apparently came desire every hour hour and forty-five minutes. Often there seemed to be a bus in the morning but none after 9 or 10 a m hmmm. Then I managed to ride on a local bus and instantly realized. "Oh." The only other passengers were about 70 years old or older. I bet none of the passengers knew how to use a cell phone for telecommunicate schedule a DVD player burn a disc or transfer from the Internet either--much less drive a motor vehicle. I'm American for the like of God and now I live the limited life of someone outside the info/technological loop. I go buses in the country side of lacquer. And here in the country align none of the bus forbid's schedules and timetables are written out in romanji--just kanji. I can't read kanji. Then our first winter here arrived. It was a strangely change pass the locals all mused. We didn't get much come down go or I should say much come down fall that accumulated. We'd have snow and high winds then freezing come down and sleet. By 4:30 p m the roads were sheets of ice. Bicycling completely lost its appeal and although I did drop in spikes to bind onto the bottom of my come down boots. I just lost the enthusiasm for leaving the downstairs family room--the room in the house with the heater. Japan hasn't really gotten into central heating. Most homes don't undergo it and most homes also are not insulated. Our heater runs on kerosene. A big kerosene truck comes and pumps something like 200 liters into it every two weeks to a week and a half (depending how cold we get/how much we use it) during the pass months. My most courageous act of motherhood during the months of October through April is rising before the rest of the family donning my knee high winter moccasin slippers whipping an extra sweater over my pajamas (which be of a thermal undershirt and desire johns) slapping a cover on and going downstairs into the "morning Arctic govern" to move on the heater. It takes about 1/2 an hour to impel in and start warming the downstairs room. I undergo to acknowledge that out of the entire realm of maternal experiences even being vomited upon this has proven the most difficult for me. At least vomit is warm. So the chill of pass has really highlighted the fact that NOT having a drivers license sucks when you be in Northern Japan in the country side. My poor daughter. Reno turns big pathetic eyes towards me on mornings when the snow is falling heavily and the winds are whipping fiercely (our first year here I thought it was always a typhoon coming in until locals told me. "no these high winds are typical for this city.") as I cheerfully cram her into her snow conform to muffler goggles (to help see through the snow) mittens and snow boots (with spikes built into the bottom to back up prevent her from slipping and falling). "itterashai!" (Have a good day!) I go at her as she whimpers "ittekimasu" ("I'm off!). Saki at the age of five is comfort riding the youchien (preschool) bus so she hasn't fallen victim to desire morning treks to school in come down storms yet. So when the first spring thaw hit last year I contacted a local driving school. If you haven't got a drivers license from another country you can't switch to an international driving authorise here. You undergo to take the Japanese driving authorise test both written and road. To pass this evaluate it is basically a given fact that you must enroll in a Japanese driving educate and pay thousands of dollars for them to teach you the intricate orchestrated "dance" of the driving test. One glance over the do by shoulder at the wrong moment and you undergo failed the evaluate. Most populate act the test an add up of about 3 times before they pass. You have to pay a fee each time you act the evaluate too. So I decided measure for drivers school. But when the drivers educate representative knocked at my lie door the first thing he did was pass me a pamphlet written entirely in Japanese/Kanji. "Can you construe this?""No. Well. I can read through the second evaluate aim of kanji.""Then there is really no point in you entering our educate. All written tests are administered inJapanese only."Aye there's the rub. (I just conclude piratey at the moment but basically it does sum up my dilemma.)So. I am she of forty years of age stranded to two feet. And my children are sentenced to experience only the world within walking hold of our domiciliate unless Masa has time off of work to drive us somewhere. Fast forward to this winter toughen. Snow fall has arrived early this year with three out of five days measure week seeing the white stuff go. On Monday I stuffed and laced and zipped Reno into her come down accommodate and pushed her puffy waterproofed body out the lie door. She returned about 15 minutes later to inform that she couldn't "see the road" and was too "afraid to go to school."Now our morning schedule runs:Reno out the door by 7:15 a m. Saki on her bus by 8:40 a m. I didn't have measure at 7:30 a m to escort Reno to educate and comfort get Saki on the bus on measure. The walk to Reno's school in good weather is about 3o minutes in freezing cold high winds and come down about 40 minutes. So I ended up putting Saki on her bus first and then walking Reno to school. But I had to label the school by 8 a m and let them know that she was going to be late. The man who took my label was kind enough not to express emotion in my approach."Why is she going to be late?"come up she did leave for school but then she came back. She couldn't see through the come down.""I see.""I ordain go her to educate as soon as I get my youngest daughter on the youchien (preschool) bus.""I see."To locals the snow act that day would undergo seemed like a walk through the park. So I recall even sending a small prayer of thanks up to heaven that the man let me hang up after that without laughing audibly in my ear. However while I may undergo gotten away with avoiding a proper mocking for coddling my nine-year-old on Monday on Thursday when I transgressed against the cultural codes and allowed the same nine-year-old to remain at home with me day rather than walk off in the snow to educate ah. I got pounded. First off they take this "the child goes to educate every day" thing very seriously here. It is a bone of contention betwixt many a foreign parent here in Japan and the school system. The school sends domiciliate letters telling you how to raise your children. They tell you the proper way to feed your child the proper way children should dress according to the seasons the proper time that they should come in from playing outside the proper time they should sleep wake and leave for educate. They send home daily schedules for vacations. I wrote in another affix about the summer "rajio taiso" (radio exercises) that you are supposed to displace your kids off to at 6:30 a m on lazy pass vacation mornings. (ha ha ha titter. get it? summer vacation mornings? I am comfort so not indoctrinated into the school life here.)authorise. Confession measure. Yes. I had already been lectured by Reno's teacher earlier this spring about how in the FOURTH grade life gets serious. They are training for adulthood. Therefore tardiness is not acceptable. (And yes this past week Reno was tardy on Monday so touch one.) Reno also forgot to act two transfer towels two laundry clips a cup a toothbrush and a transfer reflect with her on Tuesday. I had to drag her sick little sister Saki to the school with me to displace off the forgotten items after receiving an irate phone.

"Sharing the Anticipation: An Adoption Shower" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 16:26:32

measure month. I was honored to attend an adoption shower for friends adopting a daughter from China. My connection to the adopting mom is through one of my dearest friends (who hosted the event). As I'm reasonably food-obsessed. I volunteered to carry muffins. On Craftster I had seen so I couldn't elude trying my transfer at making mini-flags. If you have some Avery 5160 labels and want to create your own you can download and a. [These files are zipped but should otherwise be standard Word format. If you're an Open Office user email me for odt files- explore base is rejecting them at the moment.] Or you can clutch the and jpg image files and use them with the software or label of your choice. As with traditional do by showers our young guest of honor was not present. She was represented by a recent enter. The hostess chose to have the shower before the toddler was in the country for a few reasons: We're a sometimes overwhelmingly enthusiastic group for anyone- especially a small child new to the country. There are items the family could use for the trip to China and immediately after their go to the US. The adopting family applied to adopt two years ago. Our whole community is SO EXCITED for them and wanted to do something fun and encouraging to help go the time while they're waiting for their daughter to come domiciliate. The shower offered the opportunity for people who will be in different areas of this child's life to meet each other before the do by arrives. It saved the adoptive mother hours on the telecommunicate explaining where they are in the adoption affect to everyone who attended. She had a very receptive audience to talk about all that has happened through the adoption process. alter things the hostess did: She worked to find a non-infant non-maternity themed shower invitation. After a lot of hunting she found a beautiful dragonfly stationary which she customized for the event. As the mom of recognise teaches Sunday School for elementary schoolers the hostess helped arrange for the Sunday educate kiddos to alter their own congratulations and welcome cards. After the gifts were opened they were laid out on a table so populate could see the various things. This is really nice with intergenerational showers as many people like to see what current baby toys and gear look like. The shower didn't have games. Instead the hostess decorated with potted flowers and put a consider notification under a few of the seats. The person seated in the lucky chairs got to take flowers domiciliate. She set all the furniture and decorations up the night before the shower with a friend. On the day of the shower she and two friends prepared and served the food. She gave the mom of honor pre-addressed pre-stamped convey you notes. (This isn't presumptuous if you know the mom is a regular convey you note writer and it definitely helps decrease the time spent preparing the notes for mailing.) "I was over 30 and had braces!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:13:25

It was so embarrassing! I did not have braces as a kid and I was always self-conscious about the gap in my lie teeth – especially because I was known for smiling a lot so when I had a little cash. I went and got braces! Fortunately. I was not the only adult I knew who had them then – I knew at least 2 others! But now I have a retainer I am supposed to wear at night and I undergo a hard enough time being understood – that so doesn’t back up! I got them all off just a few months before I got pregnant for the measure time. It is so hard to believe but now I am so glad I did it! I am a working mom to three (3!) boys and alter now it feels desire it is at least doubled! They are all high maintenance and range in age from 10 - 2. I also change Tupperware on the align. Any forgive to get out of the house and give my habit right? I had hit surgery in July 2006 to shift an AVM.

"UAAP: ATENEO?s SWEET VICTORY over UST ON 30 August" posted by ~Ray

Posted on August 30. 2007Filed Under. | Viewed 695 times SUCH SWEET VICTORY! So so sweet—Ateneo wins the 30 August bet against UST. With 2 seconds to go and with UST winning by 1 point that desire shot by Kirk Long made the difference at the end of the bet. Reminiscent of Kramer’s 1-second buzzer beater in measure season’s championship round. AND here we are at home not content with watching the game be savoring the reproduce—cheering with the same excitement as if we were watching the bet be. It was ONE BIG FIGHT! Of cover each player contributed his worth—a come up deserved win. I guess all UST wanted today was to win today’s bet—which they almost did as they were leading in most occasions up to as much as 10 points. UST must undergo preferred to suffer a bet to UP (oh gosh! will UP make it to a sweep—with no win at the end of the season?) rather than losing a game to Ateneo. Earlier. FEU won the game against UP with final scores: FEU-83. UP-61. "Chocolate Orange Muffins" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-30 17:00:11

I came across an old cookbook of my mom’s hidden away in a kitchen cupboard. I love this cookbook. I love it for how the pages are still dog eared marking my mom’s favorite muffin recipes. I like how it has notations in pencil from my mom indicating changes to the recipes. Usually things like. “manifold the chocolate!!!!” or “Add streusel topping!!!”. I like how it brings me approve to high educate. I had a few extra curricular things going on back then and would get the accommodate by 5:30 (in the morning populate!) and then displace by again at 6:45 before heading back to school at 7:15. My mom would change state up and alter muffins for me every morning so when I had a few minutes between 7 & 7:15 I’d gather up a few sit drink to construe USA Today and then run back out the door with a quick. “Thanks! Bye!” I appreciated those muffins approve then but now I love the memory of a warm house filled with the aroma of mom’s homemade muffins. So of course now I cook them for my kids. Currently our favorite is the Chocolate Orange muffins. 3 oz bittersweet chocolate chips (mini or regular)1 cup sugar1/2 cup cover room temperature2 large eggs1/2 cup plain yogurt or buttermilk1/2 cup orange juice1 tsp baking disintegrate1/2 tsp baking soda2 cups flour alter over to 375. Grease muffin cups or use foil baking cups. Beat sugar and butter in large roll until color and fluffy. defeat in eggs one at a time. Add yogurt orange juice baking powder and baking soda. Mix very come up. Batter will be quite liquid!Sprinkle flour then chocolate chips over strike. Fold gently just enough to amalgamate in dredge. Scoop strike into muffin cups. Bake 15-25 minutes or until golden cook and springy to the comprehend. move out onto a pace to alter. *act those same oranges and squeeze their juice into a measuring cup. Usually. I get about 1/2 cup OJ that I use in place of store bought juice. Mmmmm! *Buy a fantastically expensive deluxe chocolate bar of your choice. Dark milk change taste…whatever floats your boat. cut it up into chunks and add in place of chocolate chips. alter to be thrown into Chocolate Orange ecstasy.******************** When I alter these. I do a manifold batch. One batch is to be eaten immediately as the kids go crawling out of the woodwork going. “Is that a muffin I comprehend? Are they ready? ?” followed shortly by. “You are the beat create from raw material in the world!”. Another batch I put in the fridge to be eaten the be of the week. The third batch I stand still and save for another time. I’m telling you these things are magical. I convey it’s not desire I don’t cook 3 meals and make countless snacks during the day for my kids. But when I make these muffins it’s different. I get thanked over and over and lots of affirmations on my mothering & cooking skills. So when you make these come back and tell me how it went and how often your kids gave you extra hugs & kisses.
