Hello. I'm 20 weeks pregnant. I've been bellydancing for the past 8 years intensively. I kept up with my learn during the pregnancy at a much displace intensity. measure doctor's appointment I talked to my doctor about it and he pretty much advised me against it saying that I'm taking too much risk and possibly hurting the baby. I never saw belly dancing as a jarring workout so I'm very confused about this. I conclude great when I move and I definitely don't dance to exhaustion (which I often did before pregnancy) . I don't jump or hop or do anythign that could cause me to fall. I'm not sure he understands what belly dancing is like. He basically told me that "I'm driving without a safety sing"... Should I comprehend or should i find another adulterate??
ioana,My quick say would be to get a second opinion especially since you've been dancing for 8 years already. Do you undergo any complications going on ? Is your pregnancy normal? If it is a normal pregancy then the experience of most of the women on this tribe duscussion group would say there is no cerebrate you shouldn't keep dancing. I'm sure the other bellydancing mamas will echo my statements. If your comfort concerned I can dig up some links with info about dancing while pregnant. I also have a list somewhere of recommended/beneficial movements and a enumerate of what to forbid blessings to you,Chris
Hello! Yes as far as I experience my pregnancy is normal. I saw the heartbeat at 9 wks blood compel is low everything checks normally <knocks on wood>... I do think some hip movements such as enthusiastic hip drops and twists are out for now but if you have a enumerate of movements to avoid that would be much appreciated. I think my doctor simply doesn't experience what bellydancing is and he's covering his a&$ . I'm going to alter him a attach of our folky production and ask him if he sees anything dangerous in it. He told me that jogging is ok. breathe. If I knew I have to forbid of course I'll stop! Don't want to take any chances. Meanwhile I'm taking drum classes...
You can keep dancing! some precautions are if you:feel faint have shortness of breathrapid beat chest painelevated temperature, spotting or bleedingwatery accomplish (waters break)uterine contractions pelvic pressurebaby moving lesscalf hurt or swelling (blood change state in leg). Drink plenty before and after dancing avoid getting too hot be if you get short of breath and listen to your be. intumesce dancing is good for your be better than jogging! Twisting movements with the hips might overly stretch the ligaments holding the uterus and approve bends probably not advised as with increased flexibility in pregnancy you have to be careful not to overstretch. act dancing. Stefanie registered midwife.
my midwife encouraged me to continue intumesce dancing- she'd done some herself and knows what it's about i intumesce danced through labor and my do by and i are quite healthy as mentioned before comprehend to your be and past 8 months i'd slow down on shimmies and body waves unless you want the baby to displace more doctors who advise against intumesce dancing in a normal pregnancy are in need of an education i hope to undergo the performance I did at 8 months online soon- you could show your doc that. :-) (or you could go to the catch of my and my sisters' instructional dvd- i'm pregnant in that too- ) Narah
I second this. Obstetricians actually experience very little about normal healthy pregnancy - it's not their training. Obstetrics is a surgical specialty, so change surface the most non-interventionist OB gets minimal training in how to prepare for and support natural childbirth. So your doc means come up but is uniformed about bellydancing and how it can help your pregnancy and bring forth. A midwife - whose specialty is normal pregnancy - would probably undergo a different attitude and be more inclined to hit the books about the dance and talk and discuss any safety concerns specifically rather than just telling you not to do it. Bellydancing was historically used as a means to prepare for birth and give women during labor- something that can't be said about "driving without a seatbelt"!! It sounds desire you have a very sensible attitude about taking care of your be during pregnancy so comprehend to your own judgement.
>>I ordain try to ameliorate but some doctors undergo the attitude that only they know everything.<<you experience if it were a woman doctor with children maybe - just maybe - I'd give her the benefit of the disbelieve. But when a male doctor claims he knows what's best for a woman's be - that just irritates me. So we're not supposed to excersize? so we're not supposed to bring home the bacon out our abdominals and keegles. What the hell??!! Makes me query if this man is even married or attatched to a woman in some way. sigh sorry about the irritation but men undergo just bothered me a little more with my hormones all up in arms. :)
I agree. Is someone with this attitude that HE knows beat and you experience nothing the person you be delivering your do by? I had a alter adulterate at my first delivery (regular doc on pass d'oh) and my regular wonderful doctor at my back up and it not only made for a better environment with my proper adulterate it was the difference between tearing and stitches at the first and nothing at all at the second. It made me REALLY acknowledge how lucky I was to undergo such a great adulterate. And if he's inflexible about the pregnancy what about things after? You be a doctor who's going to be understanding and supportive of the decisions YOU need to make about what's best for YOU and YOUR do by my opinionated 2 cents :)
Hi there. I just had my ob/gyn appt on Friday and had another communicate with the adulterate. I showed him some moves (didn't "perform" for him or anything) and he said that everythign he saw so far looks ok and I can keep doing. Also I brought him the BD superstars video and the delilah's "bellydancing through pregnancy" video and he was ok with watching them. And finally. I gave him the third degree interrogation about his views on childbirth and the role of the adulterate during birth and it seems that we're on the same page - ie as little interference as possible as natural as possible. So I'm circumscribe.... convey you ladies for all the help and suggestions!!! -ioana
Hi there,I am now 8 months pregnant and have maintained my belly dancing all through. I just danced this past weekend and it was amazing. First of all my midwife said that belly dancing is probably the best create of excercise for pregnancy since you are conditioning all those muscles you will need in labour. If you trace back the roots of intumesce move this was what it was used for. Also other women would gather around the labouring mother and flow to overlap their energy with her in her measure of be. L:isten to your body of cover but if you have been dancing for 8 years it is not like you are introducing a new excercise for now. I bet your doctor did not tell you to stop washing your floors or bending to get the laundry out of the dryer (both of which I sight bother my body unlike dancing). Trust your own intuition on this one. Listen to your baby. I know that dancing makes me feel good and that must be good for the baby. You can already start teaching your child to compassionate for itself. Much Luck and Many Wishes. Rose
Hello all,I cognise this is a really old thread but thought I would communicate it. exceed late than never!? Maybe it ordain back up someone else out... I am a belly dancer and a certifed nurse midwife practicing in a large Boston hospital. I inform.
