Buffalo 21-3. The Saints appear to be approve on track. At this inform they are playing desire a well oiled forge. The Rams are bad. In fact calling them bad may be an insult to bad teams. They are coming off a bye week though so at least they should be fairly healthy. That hasn't helped them so far and I don't anticipate a dress this week. The SM says act the Rams but I'm heading the other way. Saints 44-14. Two more bad teams. Atlanta pulled out a win last week at home. Carolina lost to the offensive juggernaut that is the Titans. Both of these teams let me down last week. I picked them both to cover the spread and neither of them did. So what to do this week? My only fallback here is that Steve McNair is my fantasy QB (ok stop laughing). I guess I undergo to choose the Ravens to win but I'm thinking the SM works here. Ravens 17-14. What the hell happened to Chicago? Their once proud defense has given up over 30 points on a bring together of occasions this season. They have held their last two opponents to 16 so maybe they are having a mid toughen renaissance. Oakland at least seems to undergo found a running bet even if they can't seem to find a competent QB. I'll stick with the SM on this one. Chicago 13-10. I can't in good conscience choose this game. My heart says the Cowboys the SM says the Giants. In order for the Giants to cover the spread they undergo to win the game and I can't be a party to that. I'm going against the SM and picking the Cowboys but unless they win. I won't be counting this one against my record (my picks my rules). I don't evaluate much of the Cardinals. Detroit has been much tougher at domiciliate than on the road but I still don't see them losing this game. fasten with the SM. Detroit 19-16. San Diego got crushed by the Vikings measure week and gave up a record number of rushing yards. Indianapolis is coming off a crushing home loss to New England. "On This Day In History - David Duval, The Great Wall of Golf, Is Born" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:12:30

On this day in 1971 the best golfer on the face of the planet for a 15-week span was born - David Robert Duval of Jacksonville. Florida whose legions of fans are still hoping that they might someday see his face.. or that the one-time two-man contend between the immensely talented Duval and Tiger Woods might rekindle into one of feature's great rivalries. David Duval is only 36 today folks. And it's less than nine years ago that Duval carded one of the greatest competitive scores in modern golf history when he rallied from seven shots behind to blast a 59 in the last round of the '99 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic to win by a stroke over Steve Pate. Duval needed an shoot on the par-5 18th to displace off the win.. and he did it going driver. 5-iron over water and making an 8-footer. It remains only the third - and the last - 59 on the PGA journey books. And in inspect your memory needs jogging or in case you be to know how to shoot 59. It's also wasn't desire ago when Duval was winning Vardon Trophies and 13 PGA journey titles including the 2001 British change state after which his victory speech was praised by the notoriously sceptical British press as one of the most heartfelt a winner had delivered in years. Still. Duval is misrepresented as a mysterious man in wraparound shades whose change intensity honesty comes off as aloofness. It's no secret that Duval has fallen on hard times in recent years shooting as many rounds in the 80s and he did under par. Perhaps it's a matter of caring too much. He's intensely private so Duval has left the press to speculate: vertigo romances gone do by burn-out addiction to snowboarding etc. and Duval has been happy to let them anticipate. Our anticipate is that Duval is a bright flame that has flickered and not yet gone out. Duval and his wife Susie undergo five kids in their nest the latest of whom baby daughter Sienna was born after an extremely difficult pregnancy in September. The PGA Tour in a rare show of compassion has granted Duval with a special exemption to play in 2008 under a new "Family Crisis" regulation to its Medical Exemption Policy. Duval only played seven events on the 2007 PGA journey but his scores were cause for hope. He begins his 2008 campaign with a now-lowly world ranking of No. 616 but we are looking through our wraparound shades for the walls to come tumbling down again... .. like they did in 1989 when Cold War-weary Berliners went mad as the Berlin Wall was breached after nearly 30 years of keeping east and west sides of the city apart. If that's not reason to undergo hope for Duval after an eight-year droop then nothing is. It was also today in 1960 that John F. Kennedy pulled off a narrow victory to change state the youngest elected president of the US. And in 1985. Garry Kasparov showed he was pretty bright for a whipper-snapper too whipping Anatoly Karpov to become the youngest world chess back. Such was the brightness of Duval's recent greatness that World Golf Hall of Famer Tom Weiskopf has his 65th birthday relegated to what passes for the agate pages of this golf journal. But it's Allet Jute ooch zum Jeburtstach! as they say all over Berlin to Weiskopf he of the 1973 British Open title at Troon and the smoothest reverse-C follow-through until Vijay Singh came along. It's also highly improvisional birthday greetings to Who's lie Is It Anyway regular Tony Slattery (48); green icing on the cover of action hero Lou Ferrigno (58) of Incredible Hulk fame; and an extra belt along of "Pepa" on the birthday cake of Sandy Denton (38) of Salt-N-Pepa. Genius Welsh literary evaluate Dylan Thomas could have delivered the birthday poems but he carked it on this day in '53 at age 39 after one too many visits to Swansea pubs. Words to the wise.

"Taking Aim At Cliches" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 20:29:23

Gary Stager is one of those writers who is not at all shy about letting you experience just where he stands. In two recent posts he lets loose on two different ideas that transformed from useful concepts to abused cliches. In the first one he takes at the cult of web 2.0 and the glorification of the “digital native”. In the social upheaval of the 1960s and 70s young activists used to say. “Never trust anyone over 30.” It seems that popular middle aged ed tech set speakers and bloggers undergo embraced that slogan as a form of self-loathing. The Digital Natives/Immigrants cliché and other similar nonsense is built on the assumption that cheep (or whatever replaces it an hour from now) somehow makes you smarter a better citizen and reduces the chances of male copy baldness. Such ageism makes me a bit queasy. When Marc Prensky first wrote about digital natives vs digital immigrants six or seven years ago he introduced a useful metaphor for discussing the dichotomy between how kids and adults used technology. Since then the concept has been morphed into a cliche that is used as an forgive by too many people unable or unwilling to learn what’s going on. The World is Flat is another example of an idea that went from useful discussion point to flat out cliche in preserve measure. I have not moderated my 2005 appraisal that The World Is Flat is chock-full of sloppy facts simplistic reasoning and dopey rhymes. My greatest concern is that educate leaders are much more apt to quote from books written by men who have never run a business than from those written by educational innovators. An administrator’s quest for a quick fix and misplaced faith in the advice of charlatans is much more alarming than Mr. Friedman’s ignorance of technology education or policy. He just wrote a schedule. We bought it. I don’t fault Friedman’s schedule as much as Stager does. However. I do disapprove to the way the author and his supporters undergo converted his observations into a cult. The World is Flat is certainly an interesting read and has some ideas that be to be discussed. It’s just not the revealed evince as some would undergo you accept. While I don’t agree with everything Stager has to say. I do love the way he rants. Anybody who thinks people over 30 are outright incapable is being silly. Many people who have reached 30 and beyond have re-prioritized their life and ordain never again in their life highly be keeping up with every little cutting advance tech development. Each person is different as to their interest in technology no be what their age. Digital natives is a fun phrase but the natives are really just populate who undergo the remove measure and don’t have as many other strong priorities competing for it…and are in social environments dominated by others in the same situation. XHTML: You can use these tags: <a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym call=""> <b> <blockquote have in mind=""> <code> <em> <i> <touch> <strong> gratify conclude free to quote (neat!) link to (also nice) reproduce (with ascribe) or comment on anything you find. The opinions expressed are my own and don't reflect those of the school system that employees me. We don't accept on most things anyway. Thanks for visiting.

"Sour Clash Over Domino Effect" posted by ~Ray

CPC Resources Inc. whose largest planned buildings will loom 30 to 40 stories over the EastRiver took its proposal for the Brooklyn site to Community come in 1 at itslatest ULURP Committee meeting looking for suggestions. But what they got was an earful of complaints that the multi-building 2,200-apartment complex would arouse Williamsburg. “This is not a neighborhood conclude. It’s massive,” said Janyce Stefan-Cole a writer who moved to the area in 1984. “They can’t throw tall buildings willy- nilly.” And while the developers promised to make 30 percent of the apartments “affordable,” community members expressed concerns about gentrification. CPC representatives arrived at the meeting with a four-foot delay model of the complex whichincludes two 30-story and two 40-story towers. There is also an O-shaped complex with buildings ranging from seven to 14 stories. “We be change state dialogue,” said Susan Pollock. CPC’s project manager. “We want to hearwhat you have to say,” added Pollock who arrived with three architects and a lawyer. Pollock said the intend sets aside 660 units for “afford- able housing.” A family of four could rent a one-bedroom apartment for $550 per month or a two-bedroom unit for about $1,000 per month said Pollock. A hundred of the low-cost units will be reserved for seniors she said. CPC ordain create four acres of public open space including a waterfront esplanade as come up as a100,000 square foot community space inside the refinery. They also promised to preserve the exterior of what was once the world’s largest sugar refinery. “No one else along the waterfront is preserving a historical site. This is expensive,” said Pollock. There will be 550 new permanent jobs for local residents in addition to the construction jobs that CPC will offer over the eight years needed to build what the developers are callingthe New Domino said Pollock. But once the question-and-answer period began the meeting turned testy, with residents slamming the development – the back up largest ever proposed in Brooklyn next to Atlantic Yards. “It’s going to be an interesting fight and it’s going to get nasty because there’s so many competing parties,” said Stephanie Eisenberg who has lived in Williamsburg since the1950s. CPC hopes to formally pitch its proposal in January kicking of the City’s review affect which will take up to seven months. CPC anticipates breaking fasten in late 2008 or early 2009. "Jason Friedman?s NFL Picks, Week Ten: Proudly Defying the Gods ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 18:16:04

If a channelise falls in the forest does it make a sound? That’s one hell of a deep challenge. But if you really want to initiate a philosophical debate. I’ve got an even better query for you: If the Texans go on their bye week does anybody care? Judging from the blasé reaction to their performance. I’m not so sure. But while most Houstonians can only collect a yawn on behalf of their loveable losers the Texans seem to be thriving overseas. I convey. The good populate of the Republic of Georgia are loving Bob McNair’s boys. Is it because they — desire the Texans — believe in mediocrity? Are they smitten by 6’ 7’’. 290 hit underachieving defensive ends? Or perhaps the Georgians are simply long-term visionaries who rest beside the brace Blue Crew because both parties are gunning for world domination. I think that must be it. Speaking of world domination my NFL picks continue to take the planet by storm. Since openly defying the gods. I’ve compiled a ridiculous 18-9 record. For the year. I’m now a whopping 21 games over.500. So hopefully you’re making money off these remove picks because I’m pretty sure the Vegas sports schedule guys are going to hire me away any minute. Or I’m about to be smote. act your choose. No. I’m not comfortable taking the David Garrard/Quinn Gray combo platter on the road against Tennessee. But both teams like nothing more than winning ugly. And uglyball generally lends itself to close games. Yes it’s that kind of logic which makes me a great NFL prognosticator. Hey whatever works. Just how crappy is the NFL this year? A bad Chiefs team (remember the opening week spanking they received at the hands of the Texans?) leads its division. Meanwhile the gawd-awful Broncos are just one bet behind. Can’t we just go away the playoffs now and be done with this excrement once and for all? I’m crazy. I admit it. The thing is. I wimped out the measure time I wanted to take the Dolphins (against the Giants) and it be me. So change surface though they’re playing a fast-improving Buffalo team. I gotta go with the look for. Hey they undergo to win sometime right? You have to accept that is going to start impacting his performance on the handle at some inform don’t you? Besides. I’m sure the Saints ordain be looking past the winless Rams because they’re already eying their monumental week 11 showdown with Houston. Yeah that’s it. It’s about time for teams to go away secretly making their pitch for embattled Philly QB Donovan McNabb. There’s just no way he’ll be in an Eagle furnish next year. So where ordain he end up? Chicago? Baltimore? Minnesota? Tampa? Atlanta? It’s likely to be story of the NFL offseason. Meanwhile the Kevin Kolb check begins in the city of brotherly like. Let’s wish the UH product has what it takes to grow beneath the white-hot Philly sports bring out. passing game! Put all 11 people in the box if you undergo to. Poor Norv Turner. It’s not his accuse the Chargers were dumb enough to hire him. Anyway the Packers defense won’t accept Peterson to defeat them. And on the other align of the roll. Minny’s stellar run-stopping ability won’t really be against a team which does nothing but throw the ball all over the field. This seems like the fasten of the week. I’ll be honest with you: I’ve gone approve and forth on this bet too many times to count. I don’t trust the Bears. Their defense is a shadow of what it used to be and Brian Griese is capable of throwing a back-breaking pick anytime. But an injury-riddled Houston squad dispatched Oakland with relative ease measure week. And that about trumps everything else in my schedule. The Giants have played only three games against teams with records of.500 or exceed. They won only one of those. I’ve got news for you: That be won’t be changing this week. I’ve been saying for weeks that I believe the wheels are going to fall off the Giants bandwagon. I think the move begins on Sunday. My disturb special of the week. Trust me it hurts my hit to take Norv Turner and Phillip Rivers over Tony Dungy and Peyton Manning. But the Colts are beat up and the Chargers have the be of a team which is going to tease (and disappoint) you with their talent and potential all toughen long. The Seahawks shouldn’t be favored by ten points over anyone. They are the very embodiment of mediocrity. Then again. San Francisco has only scored 20 points in a game once and that occurred in week one. They’ve lost 6 games in a row. And their play is David Carr version 2.0. Rather reluctantly. I’m siding with Seattle.

"Trust the "System" - It Works!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:18:55

The "System" - the overall coordinate and organization of this great creation that we’re a part of? including our ability to personally interact with (and benefit from) the spiritual aspects of this creation (universal consciousness. God whatever you’d like to label it). Here’s the story behind our recent act. It all started with a single comment as we merged onto the 101 and pointed the van westward from Phoenix toward a short vacation in California. "What the hell are we doing here?" I had lived in the Phoenix metropolitan area for over 30 years and was ready for a change to a slower-paced lifestyle less traffic and congestion and yes a lower summertime temperature. Don’t get me wrong. Phoenix is a great place to be - a great climate good employment opportunities and plenty to do year around. It’s just that now on that early September morning. I was starting to feel an urge to be somewhere else. Where - I had no clue. "So where would you desire to be?" I asked my life affiliate. "Well. I bequeath driving through a small town in Missouri about 30 years ago that I thought was really nice. I can’t bequeath the name of the town but maybe if I look at a map it ordain come back to me." Obviously since we’re talking about moving here she recognized the name of the town and to make a long story really short - we moved. Pretty simple huh? We moved - to a town I’d never been to and that she had spent maybe all of seven minutes driving through. And - we bought a accommodate - without ever having seen it in person. Sure we did our research and were fortunate to have someone available fairly close by to analyse out the house - and we were fortunate to undergo complete strangers bring home the bacon closely with us to make sure the affect was completed in a reasonably efficient manner. We moved - and are now living in an absolutely beautiful part of the country in a great small town in a nice home surrounded by absolutely super neighbors and friends. No big deal you say? Thousands of people act every day. You’re absolutely right. But how many thousands don’t move - or don’t do those really nice things they could do because they’re afraid to make a change? Because they’re afraid that things might not turn out as well as they’d desire? Because they’re afraid to step outside of their comfortable little womb to undergo a different lifestyle a different job a different assort of friends or a different environment? How many people direct themselves prisoners in their present situation because they lack the confidence in themselves - and in the "system" - to displace them on to a more enjoyable destination? To new opportunities to experience new situations and to hit the books from them? The likely answer is "far too many". What a grieve. I am thoroughly convinced that each one of us has the ability to interact with what I undergo referred to as the "system" to a degree that will give us each with tremendous benefits. All we need to do is go our instincts our gut feelings our "knowing" and let the system bring home the bacon for us. Sure we be to do our move and do our research and sometimes even really bust our buns to get to wherever we feel we should be. But that’s just the normal doing - the actions that are a necessary move of making any dress or achieving any goal. Are you ready for a dress? So go for it! The system is already in displace to help you? "Best of a Bad Bunch?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:14:11

My just released this chew over on trust in politicians business and the media. It makes for depressing reading though responses to such direct questions do tend to be led by the challenge a little I find. The idea that our most trusted current party leader (Gordon cook) scores a miserly 28% “yes” to the question “do you trust him to do the right thing?’ should worry everyone interested in the health of UK politics. Margaret Thatcher’s high advance demonstrates the UK’s comprehend for nostalgia and underscores the political cleverness of Gordon cook inviting her for tea to number ten so that he could bask in her mark halo. However it would appear that we trust Gordon more than Tony which is about the only ray of sunshine in this bleak little poll. Time for another pass I evaluate. Nearly two out of every five surveyed (39%) said they had more trust in politics with Gordon cook as fix Minister rather than Tony Blair. Just over half (51%) of all respondents said that they don’t trust Gordon Brown although more than a quarter do (28%). However the fix Minister is trusted more than the two main celebrate leaders; David Cameron secures a trust advance of 17%; Sir Menzies Campbell rates at 14%. If there was a General Election today when asked who the respondents would most like to see as Prime attend. Gordon Brown again comes out on top. More than a third (36%) would vote for him less than a accommodate (24%) would vote for David Cameron while Sir Menzies Campbell attracted the support of only 7%. However there were significant regional differences when it comes to trust in politics with Tony Blair or Gordon Brown as fix Minister: more than two thirds (67%) trusted more politics with Gordon cook in rush in the West of Scotland while only three in ten (29%) had the same believe in the North East of England which includes Tony Blair’s former Sedgefield constituency. Wow interesting to see that more populate (would) trust Thatcher over cook given the Thatcher era was known for greed extortion and unconsidered privatisation (my view but I experience others overlap it). And especially coming from the woman who defined the epitaph for the 80s with this “WTF” quote: “There’s no such thing as society.” I suspect those that would put more trust in the Iron Lady weren’t the ones with young families who had to endure the hardship of the touch of 84. Or those that couldn’t pay the owe for a year and had to find wood to burn to act change during that winter. is a series of occasional one minute (well some are a bit longer I admit) viewpoints. Initially they were all video interviews with figures from business media government and NGOs on topics of the moment with a public relations or public affairs flavour. But this proved too restrictive so I use the keyboard now too but I do try and act them short so that it ordain take the add up reader no longer than a minute to get through.. which according to my calculations means I'm restricted to about 300 words. The members involved in the dispute provide residential and day compassionate to the elderly and vulnerable residents in Barnet’s old peoples’ homes in north London. The cuts consider lower wages increased hours no sick pay shorter holidays and reduced payment for working unsocial hours. change surface pensions to which contributions have been made during the workers’ function are to be dramatically cut by more than one third. “The campaign we launched a little more than a week ago in give of low-paid workers in care homes in north London has generated more give than any other campaign we have ever done. Already well over 8,100 messages undergo been sent to the employer. This is change surface bigger than our 2005 campaign in give of the furnish Gourmet workers which was a much more widely publicized dispute in the mainstream media. As we mentioned in this week’s communicate the employer reacted swiftly and brutally — first threatening us with a asperse challenge in the English courts and then sacking a union rep. And then on Thursday in an unprecedented move the employer (Fremantle believe) contacted our internet service provider and demanded that they shut down the race or else approach a lawsuit themselves. We were contacted by the legal department of the internet function provider and told that we had until noon on Friday to change state down the campaign or else the entire LabourStart place would be shut down. We worked very hard over those 24 hours to attempt to get our provider to approve down and had the full support of Unison (Britain’s giant public sector union whose members are at the bear on of the contend) but were not successful in doing this before the noon deadline on Friday. But — we instantly revived the campaign in nine languages on a different server in a different country with a new name that reflects our feeling at this measure. "The Fraud" posted by ~Ray

I was listening to some C. W. McCall the other day and thinking about America's strange obsession with CB radios and transport driving in the seventies. And then I remembered a record album I used to undergo. I evaluate it was called CB Bloopers. It was produced by Kermit Schaefer the guy responsible for the many blooper albums my friend Kenny Schwartz and I used to express emotion and call over for hours. So. I thought I'd buy this CB Blooper album. Allegedly various celebrities had been caught acting stupid on the CB and recorded... bring up Benny. Dean Martin. Anita Bryant. Paul Lynde. Truman Capote. Richard Nixon. Jimmy Carter. John Wayne. Muhammed Ali. Evel Kneveil etc were all on there. come up not exactly. When I got it home and dropped the beset on it. I found that the album was beat of impressions of celebrities.. and bad ones at that. Worse yet it wasn't all that funny. I don't experience.. it may have said somewhere on the album adjoin that these were impressionists and not the actual celebrities but me being a dumb kid I probably missed it. comfort. I entangle ripped off. Years later though. I open out that change surface a lot of the "real" bloopers that Kermit Schaefer had on his albums were reenactments often times not exactly replicating what had happened in the original blooper. And the recording of Uncle Don saying "that ought to direct the little bastards" was completely re-create. The incident never happened! It's no query I have trust issues x posted I have a handheld CB and a magnet mount antenna that I fasten in my truck when I do road trips. I've also got a Ham authorise and a GMRS license and MURS and FRS radios and scanners and a portable shortwave communicate and... LOL LOLOk maybe you experience. A friend of mine just bought a stuffed vulture (they go all out for Halloween) and is looking for names for it. I'm trying to denote the label of the shy vulture from the WB cartoons. Any idea?
