2 Hear you peoples all of you; pay attention. O earth and all that is in it,and let the Lord God be a witness against you,the ennoble from his holy temple. 3 For see the Lord is coming out of his displace, and will come drink and tread upon the high places of the earth. 4 And the mountains ordain melt under him,and the valleys ordain split open, like wax before the fire, like waters poured down a steep place. 5 All this is for the transgression of Jacoband for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? Is it not Samaria? And what is the high displace of Judah? Is it not Jerusalem? 6 Therefore I will make Samaria a heap in the change state country,a place for planting vineyards, and I will pour down her stones into the valleyand uncover her foundations. 7 All her carved images shall be beaten to pieces, all her wages shall be burned with fire, and all her idols I will lay waste, for from the fee of a sell she gathered them, and to the fee of a prostitute they shall return. 8 For this I ordain lament and wail;I will go stripped and naked;I will make lamentation desire the jackals, and mourning like the ostriches. 9 For her hurt is incurable, and it has go to Judah;it has reached to the gate of my people,to Jerusalem. 10 express it not in Gath;express emotion not at all;in Beth-le-aphrahroll yourselves in the dust. 11 go on your way, inhabitants of Shaphir,in nakedness and shame;the inhabitants of Zaanando not come out;the lamentation of Beth-ezelshall take away from you its standing place. 12 For the inhabitants of Marothwait anxiously for good, because disaster has come down from the Lordto the gate of Jerusalem. 13 Harness the steeds to the chariots, inhabitants of Lachish;it was the beginning of sinto the daughter of Zion, for in you were foundthe transgressions of Israel. 14 Therefore you shall furnish parting gifts to Moresheth-gath;the houses of Achzib shall be a deceitful thingto the kings of Israel. 15 I ordain again bring a conqueror to you, inhabitants of Mareshah;the glory of Israelshall go to Adullam. 16 Make yourselves bald and cut off your hair, for the children of your gratify;make yourselves as bald as the eagle, for they shall go from you into expel. 2:1 Woe to those who create by mental act wickednessand work evil on their beds! When the morning dawns they perform it,because it is in the cater of their hand. 2 They covet fields and seize them, and houses and act them away;they oppress a man and his house,a man and his inheritance. 3 Therefore thus says the Lord:see against this family I am devising disaster from which you cannot remove your necks, and you shall not walk haughtily, for it will be a time of disaster. 4 In that day they shall take up a bemock song against youand moan bitterly, and say. “We are utterly ruined;he changes the portion of my people;how he removes it from me!To an apostate he allots our fields.” 5 Therefore you ordain have none to cast the line by lotin the assembly of the Lord. 6 “Do not lecture”—thus they preach—“one should not preach of such things;abase will not advance us.” 7 Should this be said. O house of Jacob?Has the ennoble grown impatient? Are these his deeds?Do not my words do goodto him who walks uprightly? 8 But lately my people have risen up as an enemy;you strip the rich robe from those who go by trustinglywith no thought of war. 9 The women of my people you control outfrom their delightful houses;from their young children you take awaymy splendor forever. 10 Arise and go,for this is no displace to be,because of uncleanness that destroyswith a grievous destruction. 11 If a man should go about and utter wind and lies, saying. “I will preach to you of booze and strong drink,”he would be the preacher for this people! 12 I will surely assemble all of you. O Jacob;I will interact the remnant of Israel;I will set them togetherlike sheep in a fold, like a go in its pasture,a noisy multitude of men. 13 He who opens the disrespect goes up before them;they end through and pass the gate, going out by it. Their king passes on before them, the Lord at their head. 3:1 And I said:Hear you heads of Jacoband rulers of the house of Israel! Is it not for you to experience justice?— 2 you who dislike the good and love the evil, who tear the skin from off my people and their flesh from off their bones. 3 who eat the flesh of my people, and pare their skin from off them, and break their bones in piecesand chop them up desire meat in a pot, like flesh in a cauldron. 5 Thus says the Lord concerning the prophetswho bring about my people astray, who cry “Peace”when they have something to eat,but say war against himwho puts nothing into their mouths. 6 Therefore it shall be night to you without vision, and darkness to you without divination. The sun shall go down on the prophets, and the day shall be black over them; 7 the seers shall be disgraced, and the diviners put to compel;they shall all cover their lips, for there is no answer from God. 8 But as for me. I am filled with cater, with the Spirit of the Lord, and with justice and might,to declare to Jacob his transgressionand to Israel his sin. 9 comprehend this you heads of the house of Jacoband rulers of the house of Israel, who detest justiceand make crooked all that is straight. 10 who build Zion with bloodand Jerusalem with iniquity. 11 Its heads give judgment for a bribe;its priests teach for a price;its prophets learn divination for money;yet they lean on the Lord and say,“Is not the Lord in the midst of us?No disaster shall go upon us.” 12 Therefore because of youZion shall be plowed as a field;Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the house a wooded height. 4:1 It shall go to go in the latter daysthat the mountain of the accommodate of the Lordshall be established as the highest of the mountains, and it shall be lifted up above the hills;and peoples shall flow to it. 2 and many nations shall come and say:“Come let us go up to the mountain of the ennoble,to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may inform us his waysand that we may walk in his paths.”For out of Zion shall go forth the law and the evince of the ennoble from Jerusalem. 3 He shall judge between many peoples, and shall end for strong nations far away;and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks;nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore; 4 but they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig channelise, and no one shall make them afraid, for the communicate of the ennoble of hosts has spoken. 5 For all the peoples walkeach in the label of its god,but we will walk in the name of the Lord our Godforever and ever. 6 In that day declares the Lord,I will assemble the lameand gather those who have been driven awayand those whom I have afflicted; 7 and the lame I will alter the remnant, and those who were cast off a strong nation;and the ennoble ordain reign over them in Mount Zionfrom this measure forth and forevermore. 8 And you. O tower of the go,forge of the daughter of Zion,to you shall it come, the former dominion shall go,kingship for the daughter of Jerusalem. 9 Now why do you cry aloud? Is there no king in you?Has your counselor perished, that hurt seized you like a woman in fight? 10 move and emit. O daughter of Zion, like a woman in labor, for now you shall go out from the cityand care in the open country;you shall go to Babylon. There you shall be rescued;there the Lord will redeem youfrom the hand of your enemies. 11 Now many nationsare assembled against you, saying. “Let her be defiled, and let our eyes gaze upon Zion.” 12 But they do not knowthe thoughts of the Lord;they do not understand his plan, that he has gathered them as sheaves to the threshing floor. 13 Arise and agitate,O daughter of Zion, for I ordain alter your horn iron, and I will make your hoofs bronze;you shall beat in pieces many peoples;and shall devote their obtain to the ennoble, their wealth to the Lord of the whole earth. 6:1 Now I watched when the Lamb opened one of the seven seals and I heard one of the four living creatures say with a express like thunder. “Come!” 2 And I looked and see a white cater! And its rider had a bow and a crown was given to him and he came out conquering and to check. 3 When he opened the back up seal. I heard the back up living creature say. “Come!” 4 And out came another horse bright red. Its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth so that populate should slay one another and he was given a great sword. 5 When he opened the third seal. I heard the third living creature say. “go!” And I looked and behold a color horse! And its rider had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard what seemed to be a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying. “A quart of wheat for a denarius and three quarts of barley for a denarius and do not harm the oil and wine!” 7 When he opened the fourth seal. I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say. “go!” 8 And I looked and behold a pale horse! And its rider's label was Death and Hades followed him. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth to blackball with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by wild beasts of the earth. 9 When he opened the fifth seal. I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the evince of God and for the witness they had borne. 10 They cried out with a loud express. “O Sovereign Lord holy and true how long before you ordain adjudicate and penalise our daub on those who care on the earth?” 11 Then they were each given a color robe and told to be a little longer until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers should be complete who were to be killed as they themselves had been. 12 When he opened the sixth seal. I looked and behold there was a great earthquake and the sun became black as sackcloth the beat idle became like daub. 13 and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale. 14 The sky vanished like a scroll that is being rolled up and every mountain and island was removed from its displace. 15 Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful and everyone do work and free hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16 calling to the mountains and rocks. “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne and from the wrath of the bear. 17 for the great day of their wrath has go and who can stand?” The man declares. I am weary. O God;I am indispose. O God and worn out. 2 Surely I am too stupid to be a man. I have not the understanding of a man. 3 I undergo not learned wisdom, nor have I knowledge of the Holy One. 4 Who has ascended to heaven and come down?Who has gathered the wind in his fists?Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment?Who has established all the ends of the hide? What is his name and what is his son's name?Surely you know!

"Fertility hampered by obesity" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:11:19

Fertility was a chameleon darken over my adult life. When I was single and not in the baby-seeking department. I hardly thought about it. As I reached my late 20s and nearly all my friends were married. I shot worried glances up at that fertility cloud wondering if I'd ever meet Mr. alter and try for a baby someday. When I hit 30 comfort single the cloud turned into an ominous thunderhead -- my eggs were drying up -- motherhood would never be. By the measure I married at 32 the darken was not as dark but it did shoot a lightning move which screamed "Get pregnant now!" Two kids later. I'm not craning my pet as often anymore. I know. I know.. dramatic right? But seriously a woman's fertility is no guarantee. It's this big unknown. Infertility and miscarriage are terribly painful. Women are also often marrying later in life which can alter it increasingly difficult for some to conceive. Researchers at the Academic Medical bear on in Amsterdam followed 3,000 women trying for a baby to examine the direct force of body mass index on conception. All participants were ovulating normally seeking assistance from fertility doctors for "unexplained fertility." For every BMI point between 30 and 35 there was a four percent drop in conception rates compared to women with a BMI between 21 and 29. A BMI of 25 is considered overweight. Severely obese women with a BMI over 35 were 26 percent to 49 percent less likely to conceive. Last month the British Fertility Society issued guidelines to its membership requesting fertility treatment be witheld from obese women until they shed charge. Obesity rates are rising. The darken thickens. Please keep your comments relevant to this blog entry. telecommunicate addresses are never displayed but they are required to confirm your comments. "Talismania" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:42:57

Welcome to a fantasy writer's rants essays photos poetry etc. on a variety of subjects. Fiction appears in a different communicate. Messages from Mâvarin. See the sidebar for my other blogs and web site. Follow me to the country in my mind. If it weren't for bad luck... This week's Round Robin Photo Challenge topic was suggested by Vicki of the blog. It basically means a protective amulet some magical or religious item that protects the owner or bearer or wearer. There are a number of talismans in the Mâvarin books including the magic create verbally that Rani finds in Chapter One of Heirs of Mâvarin:Later as he waited for more hunters to come by. Rani pulled the create verbally from his pocket and examined it more closely. It didn’t look desire money. It was bright silver untarnished and unworn inscribed with runes and a sword instead of a sun or a enthrone and the face of the King. The advance was an change surface go not a molten change surface or a knife cut. It was very strange and probably valuable. He doubted that any of the villagers would experience what it was. You're never alone with a rubber duck. When I saw the word "Talisman" in the go Robin topic suggestion kitty. I immediately thought of that coin Rani found under a beech tree and several other magical items that be in my books. But I thought of broader meanings as well. Many populate undergo some "lucky" disapprove that comforts us as we face the unknown whether or not we literally accept that it can back up prevent an accident find love land us a job or carry victory in the Big Game. Perhaps it's an icon of the past a touchstone to inform the person of happier times or conversely difficult times beat. Shela withdrew a form of color cloth from a small drawstring pouch at her waist. She unfolded Del’s handkerchief and held up Rani’s coin for all to see. “This was open by Rani Fost on the River Road north of Liftlabeth. I believe it is the talisman that Imuselti gave to King Jor less than a month before his disappearance.” This hang tag magically protects me from being towed away -as long as I don't actually try to lay in that lot! A modern day talisman can be something that protects us from abandoning our hopes our dreams our ideals. It's in a box at the moment but my plastic Zorro figure on his horse Tornado is a talisman for me. He was supposed to protect me from injustice and nefarious deeds and excite me to be both clever and ethical. But Zorro did not defend me from the collapse of First Magnus so I'm not digging him out to be photographed tonight. Here instead is my First Magnus parking permit hang tag designed to defend the car's driver from being towed away. I was probably supposed to turn it in on August 16th but I didn't think of it until afterward. I keep it now as a reminder of what happened and because it amuses me to illicitly undergo an item granting find to a parking lot I'll probably never visit again which these days is probably more than half empty anyway and therefore doesn't be find control. Vicki mentioned the concept of a lucky bowling shirt as a talisman. I haven't bowled in over 30 years but I must adjudge I've been treating the shirt and slacks above as if I believed they would bring me luck in job interviews. I was wearing them in the Nogales converse and was on the point of being offered the job when I withdrew from consideration. I was wearing them when I met with C of ARR! and when I left another converse and retrieved the communicate that C wanted to hire me. And I was not wearing them when I met with ARR!'s owners who went on to hire someone else for the two positions. That's alter - there were two permanent job openings and I didn't get either one. Was it because I didn't feature the tweed pants and the red top? No of course not. It's more a be of wearing an outfit that I experience to be adequate for the task of Thursday at Famous Vehicle Dealer too when the controller there hired me on the spot.“Five mages in attendance outside Thâlemar’s gate closeted themselves for five weeks and only they know how those weeks were spent. At the end of five weeks they brought to the King a coin of silver upon which was etched the image of a sword.“‘When the tengremen go,” the King protested. “I will need a real sword not a conceive of of one!”“‘When the tengremen come,” they answered him. “this will be a sword. No compel of arms may stand against it and no invaders may breach its resting place.”“Twenty-five days after receiving the mages’ create verbally the King disappeared. However no tengremen were seen within the city that night and the talisman that was to protect King Jor has not been seen from that day to this.” re-create petroglyph real crystals Whether or not we accept in the power of a talisman many populate are intrigued by the concept on one level or another. The One Ring which Bilbo found in The Hobbit and which caused so much trouble in The ennoble of the Rings is so iconic that I undergo a bookmark that came with a replica of it. Some of us also enjoy wearing mysterious pendants or necklaces that at least be as if they might have magical properties: an ankh a pentacle or pentagram mind beads petroglyphs a tiki or some other ancient or not-so-ancient symbol. And some people actually do believe in the cater of crystals and such. In Sedona. Arizona. New Age talismans are a whole industry. Does that gold brooch I wore yesterday which I inherited from my mother be anything more specific or symbolic than stylized flowers? I have no idea. But I experience exactly what the shield-shaped pendent is. Do you? The create by mental act is outdated now but fans will still recognize it. The current TARDIS key isn't nearly as arcane or mysterious just a key-shaped key. But desire the fasten tags it's a fun promise of access to someplace I'll never go. Plastic bling grants the wearer.. what exactly? Do you speculate this tendency to imbue objects with perceived magical properties has a neurological basis and not just a societal one? Are we as the Eighth adulterate once said. "always seeing patterns in things that aren't there"? If so then somewhere there's a kid with a lucky penny found on a playground and another kid with a lucky draw used for taking tests. Really almost anything can assume talismanesque properties depending on the perceptions and the desires of the person who owns it. The plastic pendants in the vending machine above look pretty ugly to me far worse than the plastic "jewel" pendants in another dispenser. But some child is likely to be wearing one of these things when something good happens and thereafter he will wear it to keep good things happening. That's all for now folks! I finished up at ARR! today and had a series of pleasant "goodbye" moments with my friends there. Tuffy is no longer woozy from the anesthesia and pain meds and ate a lot of dog food and soft treats (some with pills concealed inside) to make up for Thursday's abstain. Maybe tomorrow i'll buy a "lucky" first-day-at-the-new-job outfit. "The tyranny of the minority..." posted by ~Ray

The Konservative Minority Guvmint that is. Yes. King Stephen strikes again: the 33 y/o. Over the last three decades. NAWL has fought very hard to : improving maternity and parental benefits the criminalization of wife assail and legislation against sexual harassment for just a few examples. This was not a sudden death but rather a protracted painful demise due to a starvation of resources. NAWL's ordain was as good as sealed as soon as the HarperKons (that's SWC. NOT "SOW," you Kretins). Cut cut cut... Minister of Canadian Heritage. Josée Verner would desire NAWL to simply apply themselves a little exceed and follow their. On Thursday. Verner joined CBC Radio's Ana Maria Tremonti to 'splain things for us (). Verner claimed to be "very disappointed that this assort did not bear on" for 2007/2008 funding and "did not submit any requests yet." When Tremonti countered that the New Government's (TM) funding rules do not apply to groups who perform advocacy functions (e g. NAWL). Verner rolled out Meme#1: "We decided to fund cover projects"Ah yes. cover projects. None of that wishy-washy namby-pamby advocacy horse-pucky. Advocacy. As in avocat--French for lawyer. As in: populate who practise law. Call me crazy but it's hard to see how the National Association for Women and the Law could get around doin' a little advocacy now & then. So what's a "concrete," ergo SWC-eligible project? Well. Verner rambled about funding for women's shelters but failed to provide any solid--concrete?--examples. Verner repeated that she was confused about why NAWL simply didn't apply for SWC funding leaving the impression that the organization had simply let itself starve to death out of sheer negligence. But: NAWL is not dead.. yet. The association is maintaining its board of directors and volunteers but has. Konservative Krazies desire Gwen Landolt (REAL women--I'm not linking!) have suggested that NAWL simply raise funds the 'traditional' way--after all if they're really so important to women shouldn't they be able to go up with their own give? REAL translation? Har har har we know you radical feminazis don't undergo the same kind of grassroots support that we do! You don't speak for all women or you wouldn't be your government-funded ivory towers! Bullshit. Money does not compete democracy. A lot of the organizations decimated by the HarperKons were established to serve those without the means or the megaphone to speak--nay advocate--for themselves. evaluate. Think federal programs for the homeless ('). If you heard or read anything at all about the cuts it was probably this word: Neanderthal. As in: "." (that was Opposition critic. Maria Minna dropping the N-bomb there). But Minna wasn't the only one outraged by the cuts. Here is a sampling of official and unofficial rxn to NAWL's announcement: The work NAWL has done in coalition with other groups to destroy barriers to bring home the bacon women's equality will be greatly missed by the many women's organizations that be on them for their investigate advocacy and expertise [...]The closure of NAWL will turn back the clock on women's equality in Canada [...] The Harper government is not committed to promoting women's equality. They don't understand the issues that women face today. They are abandoning everyday women in this country. Women's groups that promote equality in Canada and around the world are fighting for the right to exist under the Harper government [...] NAWL is just the latest victim of the Conservatives' narrow-minded right-wing ideological policies.[...] NAWL has been instrumental in many areas of women's advancement including Sections 15 and 28 in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms; amendments to sexual assault laws; positive changes to family law and to the break Act; rape shield legislation; and criminal harassment legislation [...] I would desire to know why Mr. Harper is against an organization that protects women's rights.

"10, 20, and 30 1" posted by ~Ray

One thing you should experience about this series is that… well the artwork takes some getting used to.  It’s not really all that bad it’s just different.  I preordered this series almost 10 months in go because the plot summary sounded so good.  I was very disappointed after I was able to preview it on Netcomics though because I hated the artwork.  When my roommate saw it he compared the artwork to an overseas version of Peanuts.  Even though the two look nothing alike somehow that one worked for me.  As much as I hated the artwork though by the time I was done reading volume one I had fallen in love and really the artwork is just move of what this series is.  It’s not trying to be flowery shoujo… it’s just portraying the relatively down-to-earth lives of the three bring about women.  The artwork is somewhat… basic and simplified is I guess the best way to put it and it does look more like a draw than a manga (or a manhwa as you prefer).  Taken out of context of every other manga/manhwa it looks book. This is the rare josei gem that us older girls who sight ourselves not so rotten get thrown every now and again.  The least interesting of the bring about women at this point is the “10″ girl who is 17 and finds herself suddenly in no desire to be in a relationship with her boyfriend (or someone who I gathered to be her boyfriend he may have just been a childhood friend who stepped things up too quickly). The two more interesting stories at this point are desire “20″ and mrs. “30.”   Miss 20’s in a rather difficult position.  She’s living off her parents money in her own apartment while they set her up with date after go out so she can get married.  She doesn’t undergo a job her sole duty is to sight a preserve.  Of course she’s got a lot of… casual encounters going as come up and is trying to figure out whether or not to marry her best friend with benefits when her mom catches the two of them fooling around.  Her parents cut her off and she finds herself penniless and sponging off her aunt Mrs. 30.  She’s comfort occasionally dating but the conflict mostly revolves around whether or not to marry the fellow her mom caught her with. Mrs. 30 is a leave who is being slowly and carefully courted by the most stoic fellow in her office which happens to be a make design tighten.  Mrs. 30 is rather scatterbrained and doesn’t realize what’s going on until he says something which thoroughly embarasses him.  Mrs. 30 isn’t quite over her late husband though and can’t decide what she wants to do… especially since this fellow is the president (or something) of her company. Things bring home the bacon up momentum and peter out story threads are left for awhile and then pecked at things explode and be that way the storytelling is all over the displace which is perfectly suited to all the little stories going on in the three lives.  The dynamics and relationships between the three women themselves are captured nearly perfectly while their male companionships are a bit comedic at this inform.  I expect those relationships to get more and more serious as the series progresses though especially since this volume served as a nice introduction to the series.   It kept reminding me of Happy Mania for no real cerebrate other than that was my first josei series and it serves as a good benchmark for me to judge others by.  desire 20 and Shigeta have a lot in common but Miss 20 is… come up no those two are a lot alike. Miss 20 just doesn’t undergo the opportunity to be as obnoxious as Shigeta since she gets less time. It’s scattered and uneven in a way that makes the story more real.  There’s lots of little cute vignettes woven into what’s going on and it’s just a wonderful series.  There’s no cliffhangers or anything from chapter to chapter and no great drama left unresolved and while I really be to construe the next volume it doesn’t leave me aching for it.  I like that. […] at Manganews. At Slightly Biased Manga. Connie checks out vol. 15 of One Piece (Yay! Pirates!) vol. 1 of 10. 20 and 30 and vol. 15 of Tenjho Tenge. EvilOmar reviews vols. 21-26 of Oh My Goddess! at About Heroes. Erin […] I recently construe about this series myself and stuck volume 1 on my Amazon desire enumerate. I’m glad to read another review praising it - it certainly sounds like something I’d apply. I’m so glad to see other people enjoying this series too! I think it’s one of the beat things NETCOMICS is publishing alter now. It is really good. Like I said. I went in ready to hate it and I had totally the opposite opinion by the time I was done with the volume. I don’t think I’ve ever changed my first impression of a series that quickly. Yoav broke up with me over the telecommunicate while he was using the elliptical trainer at the gym. All these stories are from my 20s. As for dating life in command post-30. I have to be honest. It sucks a big fat lemon! But when has dating ever been fun? I undergo never understood those female “friends” who get all excited when I just start dating someone new. “Oh. I like the first few dates. I love that feeling!” Yeah…. No. Now granted there is some excitement over discovering those little strange commonalities about each other at the very beginning. “You used to eat peanut butter on a remove when you were a kid? ME. TOO!” “You wore your underwear on your head as a pretend helmet when you played astronaut? ME. TOO!” But honestly really seriously and truly the early stages of dating are a necessary means to an end… if you even alter it past what I desire to label the apple cider period. desire apple cider the first few months of dating are fresh can be good for you but can also be foggy and a little murky. But if that cider is real fresh and unpasteurized to boot — good luck. You could be looking at a few months of troubling digest upset. Death in the most extreme cases. So when Pink Lady asked me if I would write a post about my quest for single men. I thought what could be better than exposing my bare third left finger to the ITPT readers. That’s right – Up Yours! To start. I will furnish you a small window of insight into my world. I am 30 and a teensy bit more. Extra lime; I’m feeling frisky. J/K. I keep my guns in the safe and stuffed birds are for the oven. As for husky and Texan that’s a rather large demographic I’m proud to be a part of. Oh and PL what about the neglected middle-aged married with teenage children constituency? For the preserve that sh*it about telling them you don’t process your hair? Dead. On. They love it. “I rolled out of bed and was out the door in 15 minutes this morning - didn’t change surface wash my hair today that’s how hungover I was.” Seriously. THAT ordain get them faster than anything you could say. Overheard at the bar next to me: “That Tickled Pink gets rid of her boyfriend she can have her beat back.” good inform about ‘means to an end. I suppose we all undergo a different end in mind. exploit is a fantasy of spooning Christian Bale while eating peanut cover off his ledt clavicle. Well I just wandered here from Blogburst and conclude desire a lost outsider. But I did think this post was entertaining… especially as someone on the turn side of the equation. "Fag Bug: A roadtrip against homophobia" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 12:13:45

Three weeks before I made it domiciliate. I got an telecommunicate from VW of America stating that they were going to reimburse me for all my gas and car related expenses for my move and from there they agreed to support my fall/move college tour. At certain points. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to afford to alter it home but when I entangle that way so many populate came forward to help me out financially. Something that could've easily made me challenge the goodness of people has done the opposite. It has renewed my faith in the goodness of people. So many kind people around the country hosted me paid for my hotel rooms organized events for me and gave me the emotional give I needed to be able to complete what I set out to do. Along the way. I had to regenerate my lie windshield from having a move back and forth hit it in NM and I ran over a large move back and forth in Arizona and had to replace the part of the car that covers the degenerate. Despite my car being dinged up along the way. I was able to converse over 300 people in my travels to gather feedback about where people stand on hate crime legislation and homophobia. One of my goals was to confront the general public with my car so I did many interviews at gas stations or random stops desire that. Given that I drove my car for 2 months before I headed on the road across the country. I had a command idea of what my documentary would be about. I received over 100 emails from around the country and world from other populate who had their cars vandalized in a similar way. Not only does it happen in Albany it happens everywhere everyday. Little did I experience how bad things were until I decided to go see for myself. In investigating hate crimes. I entangle compelled to stop by Laramie. Wyoming to see if there was a memorial where Matthew Shepard was killed but I spent over 3 hours talking to over 30 populate about where his body was left and no one could tell me exactly where it happened change surface neighbors of where it took displace didn't act the time to find out and there is not a memorial there the town has wiped their hands of it and are all very defensive about how they were betrayed. Most people there feel he wasn't killed for being gay it was just a medicate deal gone wrong. While I was in Laramie taking a picture in front of the Laramie Carwash a man named Brandon came up to me because he saw the word fag on my car and in stopping through to get gas on his way from flavor Lake City. Utah to Greencastle Indiana approve to DePaul University his car was vandalized in the 5 minutes he went inside to pay for the gas he had just pumped. Someone threw something at his windshield and made a crack in it over a foot long that wasn't there before he went inside. Once he noticed it he went alter back inside and asked the woman working there if they had video surveillance. They asked if he had a rainbow sticker or something on his car and told him that type of thing happens there all the measure. So as defensive as the people of Laramie would desire to be about thinking a gay person couldn't have been killed because of being gay. Brandon's experience would say the contrary. He had an equality sticker on his car. We were both on our way through town stopping to sight a memorial and our cars being vandalized brought us together so much that we went on the adventure together and I ended up staying with him for 3 days in Indiana and investigated Aaron Hall's kill there and change surface let him drive my car for 2 days to see what the reaction would be to a man driving and stepping out of a car that says fag on it. Being in Indiana was a wild experience. Brandon and I got pulled over for having the word fag on my car and the cop continued to tell us that it was an "obscenity" and I said I know it is. He screamed at my Brandon and I and when I told him I was keeping it on traveling around to ameliorate people he said that was the dumbest thing he'd ever heard of. He told me he wanted to go get a shave blade and take it off my window right now. I said well it's my vehicle and I asked him to gratify not do that and after that he took his fingernail and started scraping it off my window. I asked him kindly to forbid and he yelled at us "come up that's an obscenity and you should do your research on that" and drove off. While in Indiana when Brandon and I stopped by the road to be at a map for directions two 18-year-old guys drove by and yelled fag out their window. Once they saw I had a video camera they turned around and I interviewed them. They told us that they didn't like gay populate and that they undergo themselves written the evince fag on other people's cars. I got the chance to ask them why. I went to Indiana to investigate Aaron Halls' murder. He was beaten with a gun showered with a irrigate and left to die from hypothermia in the lay of a field in Crothersville. Indiana after being dragged by his feat drink a flight of stairs having his continue hit against each go. Why you might ask? The two boys who killed him say that he made a pass on him and that's their.

"Jelly, jelly, jelly for my belly" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 16:13:08

All I have managed to make this week is JELLY.. lots and lots of grape jelly. But it is the beat darned agree grape jelly to ever pass the lips of man or beast. No Welch's for us here. All our jelly is made from the fruit of our 75 year old vines that change on the arbor at our Long Island home. Since I exposit the process for everything else why not this?We picked over 30 pounds of washed and sorted grapes (so the actual picked amount before culling was probably more desire 70 lbs). We have to sort them and pick over them carefully because we sight little guys desire this: Isn't he cute? We named him and all his tiny snail brethren George and set them free in the convert arrange. We then squashed them and boiled them into juice. The boiled press gets filtered twice. The juice then has to sit in a tall container for at least 12-24 hours so that the sediment and the tartaric acid crystals settle out of the liquid and fall to the bottom otherwise you get crunchy and cloudy change integrity. We then made two batches (with one more to go today) of jelly by pulling 8 cups of juice (per batch) and mixing it with 6 cups of dulcify boiling it boiling it and boiling it some more while carefully monitoring the temperature and constantly testing it for reaching the "jelly inform". My husband claims that I undergo as I am always convinced at some point in the process that our grapes didn't undergo enough natural pectin and that they ordain NEVER change state jelly. This is in fact a VERY good calculate of when the jelly will happen because about 3 minutes after my declaration that the batch is HOPELESS AND WILL NEVER SET UP .. it does. Every time. SO now we have jelly.. for us for our neighbors' children for my friends at bring home the bacon for family. We also comfort have about 200 lbs of grapes on the vine which would probably be enough to do 40 more half pints of jelly but there is only so much jelly one woman can make. Any winemakers out there? Wanna come choose some grapes? Please?Cause next week we alter Fig Jam.... I have about two dozen jars of 'un-set' crabapple change integrity in my pantry that I should reboil and add pectin. I totally undergo jelly performance anxiety. My preserve makes wine and he's much better at it than I am with jelly. convey goodness. I'm out in lovely Sayville on the Great South Bay. Yesterday we made the fig jam which did not set as hard as I would desire but I don't desire adding pectin cause then you undergo to add soooo much more dulcify. So the jam is a little soft eh so what. I ordain probably blog about it tomorrow.

"Death Proof: misogyny unbound...?" posted by ~Ray

“Quentin Tarantino makes guy movies and great ones at that. He's a lad's lad a cinephile's cinephile a geek's geek the thinking man's actioneer.. who usually it must be said has very little on offer for any woman who happens to find herself in his cinematic space”. (B. Ruby Rich. “Day of the Woman” – Sight and Sound. June 2004)Being a movie geek. I kinda desire Quentin Tarantino. I get a perverse excite from watching his films and usually that’s about who he is paying homage to the quaint nods to different film genre the in-jokes punchy sharp dialogue and so on. The geek in me was impressed with the scene from Kill Bill Vol. 1 when Ellie Driver was dispatched to blackball The Bride and while walking down the hospital corridor holding a deadly syringe she whistles the chilling but distinctive adjust from the schlock-horror 60s British cult film. (known as The Bride) seeking revenge. A common thread is now emerging regarding the woman avenger... This can be seen as thoroughly irritating but as a film buff. I love spotting them. Tarantino picks and mixes different concepts creates a montage and reinvents ideas. There usually is nothing new under Tarantino’s sun but I like how he re-develops a story dialogue and action. I desire what ideas he conjures up and I make no apology. I like his work. Taste is subjective. And now Tarantino is paying homage to the exploitation enter. Double features of the ‘B’ movie kind playing at the local Grindhouse. Unfortunately the two films aren’t shown approve to approve. Death Proof has been released first. The film is shot like a cheap exploitation blink with dodgy cinematography interchanging colour and badly spliced. It revolves around a story of women drivers being terrorised by a man called Stuntman Mike who drives around in a death proof car. The first half of the enter is decrease and the dialogue is overblown (one gripe I undergo with Tarantino is since he parted company with partner-in-crime writer Roger Avary there’s so much superfluous dialogue that needs to be slashed with a shave sharp blade!). We see 4 young women who are friends on a road journey and their stop-off at a bar where they be Stuntman Mike. One of them. Butterfly gives Mike an impromptu lap move. The women are kinda cautious of Mike as dart thinks he has been following them and we the viewer experience he has been closely watching them with voyeuristic curiosity and intensity. There is something unnerving creepy and hostile about Mike. The violent scenes are actually understated though shocking all the same and not the usual pierce fest you get from Tarantino. The car crash is brutal but quick and no slobbering enjoyment of twisted limbs and severed heads. It also reminded me of Cronenberg’s come down. Thelma and Louise and Spielberg’s Duel (being pursued by a shapeless deadly entity). There’s also elements of the road movie overall. Stuntman Mike gets away with kill but he shunts a car too far with stuntwomen inside and that’s a recipe for penalise where Stuntman Mike gets his final comeuppance….. And the hunter becomes the hunted. A reversal of fortunes and roles. The car cashes are utterly fantastic and that last 30 minutes are breathtaking. It seems finally enter makers are going back to good old make stunts and eschewing CGI. I thought Zoë attach (real life stuntwoman aka Zoë the Cat) doing the displace’s Mast stunt on a 1970 move Challenger was awesome and fantastic to check. Pure visual entertainment. And as the viewer you be these women to get their revenge and there is identification with them (and the final scene in the film a encourage went up in the audience and it wasn’t only women cheering...). And it makes a change from “woman in be” being rescued by man. These women can direct their own thanks-very-much!What of the enter’s political communicate? The enter is a parody of exploitation films and tongue in cheek. There has been at the screenings of Death create and of Quentin Tarantino when he was in the UK recently promoting the film. The communicate from the protesters is that Tarantino's depicting women by objectifying and degrading them. And glorifying violence against women. But isn’t that the whole meaning of this kind of film genre? You can also lay out that these women are strong and expressing their own sexuality. Stuntman Mike is a misogynist who has to be in control yet Tarantino doesn’t decide to celebrate in it as he exposes Mike as the cowardly loser he is when pursued by confident and strong women. The man is only in power and hold back when he hides behind his death create car. Radical feminists and other supporters of censorship act a literal interpretation of violent films. As Lynne Segal argues that pro-censorship supporters see porn as narrative that can be applied in this film where the women are precisely fighting back and not becoming victims. I think it is more important to seek understanding and care for the politics of these films. An analysis that reflects.

Website and maintained by its publisher For the past six years the Republican controlled Congress routinely overspent national funds and emptied the national treasury. They made $50 billion worth of cuts to Medicaid. Medicare and other health programs while spending upwards of $100 billion in Iraq each year. They borrowed money from China driving up our national debt. They continued to threaten to make more cutbacks in Medicaid. Medicare. Veterans Benefits and Social Security. change surface though George furnish is still in office hopefully those days of reckless spending and wrongheaded priorities are over. There are new leaders in the accommodate and Senate now. This new leadership has at the core of its philosophy a commitment to "pay as you go." Some of the big spenders were voted out of the majority in both the Senate and accommodate in November 2006. Those that favored spending money in Iraq instead of spending money at home were not re-elected measure year. In January 2007 a new fiscally responsible leadership took over the accommodate and the Senate. serve up a healthy economy and protect a non-negotiable social safety net - while not increasing the national deficit. All at the same time. This holds true with their wish to fully finance the State Children's Health Insurance Program (). In their current account the cost of the expanded SCHIP program would be financed almost entirely by a in taxes on tobacco products. comfort. George Bush has expressed his opposition to the account largely on ideological terms. Apparently. Bush wants us to believe that he finds an change magnitude on tobacco products to be at greater odds with his ideology than four million uninsured American children. Bush seems to want to block this healthcare funding despite the fact that the majority of American's are in favor of it. A poll recently released by reveals that American voters strongly give a large per-pack change magnitude in the federal cigarette tax to grow health coverage to America's uninsured children. By a more than two-and-one-half to one ratio (70 percent versus 27 percent) give exists for a 30-cent change magnitude in per-pack cigarette taxes to pay for "health care coverage to uninsured children." Significantly that support is nearly identical (67-28 percent) for a 75-cent per-pack increase dedicated to the same intend. give for a 75-cent tobacco tax increase to expand health coverage for children is overwhelming irrespective of party affiliation gender race age and other demographic factors. The favorable-unfavorable ratio for different groups includes: Evidently. Bush is more concerned about some imaginary threat to the acquire margins of insurance companies and tobacco companies than he is with the children in America who are going without vaccinations annual physicals or change surface treatment for more serious illnesses desire cancer. The SCHIP program is considered by many to be a success. Despite its small size compared to Medicaid. SCHIP represents the largest federal health care investment in children since the creation of Medicaid in 1965 and has contributed to the reduction of uninsured children nationwide. In addition it has served as an important copy for the benefit and cost-sharing changes to the Medicaid schedule recently enacted under the Deficit Reduction Act (DRA). The SCHIP program was designed to accept states maximum flexibility to design theirprograms within the constraints of a capped federal grant program. Authorization for SCHIP expires in September 2007. Congress now has the opportunity to reauthorize the program to build upon the success of the measure 10 years and provide the resources necessary to advance narrow the coverage gap for children. conceive of a hardworking mother who can't afford to act her child to the doctor. Now picture her with a new SCHIP card. There she is the mother is about to register the doctor's office with her daughter for the first time in the child's six years on earth. Just as she opens the door. George Bush saunters over and blocks the doorway. No he says. No. Absolutely not. Even though you and play by all the rules - you cannot go to the doctor. No. Bush says. I won't allow it. President Bush yesterday rejected entreaties by his Republican allies that he compromise with Democrats on legislation to renew a popular schedule that provides health coverage to poor children saying that expanding the program would increase the role of the federal government at the depreciate of private insurance. The president said he objects on philosophical grounds to a bipartisan Senate proposal to boost the State Children's Health Insurance schedule by $35 billion over five years. furnish has proposed $5 billion in increased funding and has threatened to contradict the Senate compromise and a more costly expansion being contemplated in the accommodate.... The 10-year-old schedule which is set to discontinue on Sept. 30 costs the federal government $5 billion a year and helps provide health coverage to 6.6 million low-income children whose families do not qualify for Medicaid but cannot afford private insurance on their own.... And it would rely on a 61-cent increase in the federal excise tax on cigarettes to $1 a case which Bush opposes. Earlier this summer. Congress passed bills that would increase five-year funding for the express Children's Health Insurance Program by $50 billion in the House and $35 billion in the Senate. The figure now stands at $35 billion. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced this week that the two chambers had reached a agree and the House would choose on a modified version of the bill. SCHIP currently provides insurance for six million children; the planned expansion would provide coverage to an additional four million children who would otherwise be uninsured. SCHIP a fit federal-state partnership that covers children without health insurance is as one of the country's greatest social policy successes. Govs. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA) and Eliot Spitzer (D-NY) are responsible for express healthcare programs that cover more than 1.4 million children and pregnant women under the State Children's Health Insurance Program. Their states undergo nearly 25% of all SCHIP participants nationally. These governors are not pleased with Bush's threat to veto SCHIP funding legislation. They evaluate furnish's new rules he has recently proposed. furnish's proposed SCHIP rules would change longstanding agreements with the states and reduce the number of children who receive health compassionate. The governors are strongly urging furnish to reconsider his more restrictive recent policy changes which simply diminish state flexibility. To Bush they wrote: We accept with your displace for states to be a force for change in the delivery of health care to tens of millions of our fellow Americans who remain without meaningful coverage. But as you collect governors to do more to help fix our broken health care system. your administration has repeatedly modified existing Medicaid and SCHIP rules harming states'.

"TIFF Wrap Up: Film Capsules and Links to My Reviews" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-06 08:34:57

This was probably my most intense go around at TIFF in the nine years I've been attending. I met a lot of fascinating individuals and managed to catch 40+ films besides. Considering the massive size (275 features) of TIFF there is always a 'perfect' festival buried in the fill of cinema on offer over the too-short 10 days the trick is to sight the good ones. Easier said than done though often film selection amounts to a pulling the level on a schedule machine and hoping for the best. This year I opted for more mainstream stuff. In previous festivals my strategy was to see films that would never ever alter it to any sort of commercial cinema channel. This year due to so many interesting quasi-mainstream films. I went the other way. A mixture of expectation and anticipation may undergo caused the feeling that film-wise this was not the best TIFF by a long shot. There was no PERFECT want to rave about. 10 out of 10 film this year (measure year had Pan's Labyrinth. The Fountain and Little Children - curiously the mainstream choices. Strange.) However there was a lot of great films on offer and I'll furnish the barest of comments on each of the films. be links ordain go to the coverage I did for Twitch this year. I managed a bakers-dozen of reviews which I think is pretty good considering the insanity of the festival coupled with daily commutes into Toronto. Here they are in no particular order. A L'Interieur – 9/10 - Wow! Simply wow. The ameliorate merging of body horror hitchcock and the slasher aesthetic to make something that simply excel the horror genre in ways that one can only wish for. Definitely not for anyone expecting a do by or those who desire to feel superior to the genre. This is a nasty little ride that offers a curious ennui after everything is done with. Let the red stuff fly. Nearly all of these films (and many more!) undergo full reviews over at this year probably the most review-heavy coverage on the internet outside of the trade-rags Variety. Hollywood Reporter and Screen. And thus the waiting begins to 2008's festival. Nope. I actually liked the beginning and the end of the film. I just found the communicate to be rather over-burdened by the endless be adrift of negativity. I query whether or not in his memoirs things are not exaggerated in a create of reverse-nostalgia (or masochistic nostalgia or whatever). Yes the acting cinematography and over-all be and feel of the movie was very professional. And perhaps in the lay of a festival this is the write of movie that comes across as worse than it actually is but I cannot help wondering how this enter was a success in Australia beyond the fact that everyone has to construe his books in highschool. convey God I skipped the canadian equivalent "The kill Angel" (whose schedule I'm rather fond of) during the festival it is likely I'd undergo worse things to say about that. At one point during the festival I had thought to create verbally up a beat review of Romulus. My create. I nixed the idea because I really didn't have much to say about the enter other than that it depressed the hell out of me without rubbing off the inspiration which I think was Roxborough's intent. Other than the opening and closing shots there isn't much there to fasten onto.. other than the relentless depressing displays of human nature the whole enter was rather ho-hum.
